Package price advice?

I have a Mark III Target, stainless bull barrel. Honestly, with two Bearcat purchases, something has to go, and this is it. For my taste, it's a boring ammo eater. No real challenge like the others. So, I have a lot of goodies too, and a LGS will sell it on consignment for 15%.

It has a very well made (by me) stainless LCI plug that fits with a stainless pin. It has a VQ hammer bushing, disconnector, and the latest VQ Mark II (yes, two) accurizing kit with stainless trigger, installed with stock springs. I have the removed Ruger parts and leftover VQ parts (springs and extended bolt release). Grips and sights are factory, white outline rear. Original box and papers.

I have seven mags. Blackhawk and Uncle Mike nylon holsters, a Ruger branded Triple K holster. Two spare sets of factory grips. Six magazine springs.

Last but not least, I also have one of every part listed in the manual except a frame, receiver, and bolt. Two of most springs, three recoil spring assemblies, extractor assemblies, and firing pins.

The gun was bought new Thanksgiving Day 2008, and has about two K rounds through it, just a few hundred with the VQ kit.

I have about about $1100 invested, I'm guessing about $750 a good LGS price, and I would clear $650.

Or, I could GunBroker for $725 with free shipping and do about the same?

I know everyone is different but .... folks around here locally seem to really shy away from guns with any after-market mods and they aren't willing to pay a penny for spare parts.

This being a more captive audience of Ruger nuts ..... maybe your best audience is here.

I don't know about prices though .... don't have any MKIII's and most of my stuff is bone stock.

That is a lot of parts just for 1 Mark III.

If you have a MKII 5.5" Target, you could get $350 for it.
For a MKIII, you might be able to get $350 for it if you wait long enough.
I meant just for the gun itself.

I don't know how much all the other parts and holsters are worth to a buyer.

You need a buyer that has a lot of Marks and could use some of the parts. Folks w/a lot of Marks are probably good bargain hunter.

But you wouldn't know until you try. A lot of pics of everything would help.

I agree with the above two. The spare parts are going to be a loser for you. That is something you buy for yourself (I have some parts inventory) but selling will be tough.

I don't always shy away from modded Rugers (well it depends) but some do, so putting it back to stock and then selling the VQ kit and pistol separately might work best.

The problem with modifying your pistol (motorcycle, car, fill in whatever you want) is that they're your mods, and may not be what someone else wants. Custom parts rarely hold value, and they rarely add significant value to whatever you're selling.

In your case, the mods you made aren't atypical. You may find someone who appreciates them and will pay a bit extra, but understand it could take a while to sell as you've seriously narrowed your market.

Case in point: When I was looking to buy a bike a couple years ago I recall one ad. The guy was asking WAY too much for his HD because it "has over $3,000 in chrome skull trim" Well, I don't want your chrome skulls, so I'd have to take them all off, try to sell them, and spend more $ to replace them.

The changes you've made are way more practical than chrome skulls, but it illustrates my point.

You guys have given me things to think about.

$350 is about the going rate for a used Mark III locally, as stock with two mags.

Five extra mags were about $135 new. The VQ parts were about $150.
Holsters $85. Ruger parts were about $185, most were bought in 2009, cheaper than now. (One good reason to stock up on parts).

So my price thought of about $650 would be the $350 local average, and half of what's in everything else. I could do $500 without factory parts and Gunbroker them, maybe.

I think the holsters, mags and VQ would go as a package. Enough people at the range seem well aware of VQ stuff, just too cheap to get it!

Don't wanna rain on your parade but there's no way you'll get $650-$750 for all of it. Few people will want the spare parts. Ruger MK-series guns don't fail often enough to bother keeping one of everything on hand, unless it's free. The extra factory grips have little appeal. As does the Uncle Mike's holster. The magazines are a plus as are the factory parts you removed when installing the VQ kit, though I can't imagine wanting to put them back in. These guns are available brand new for $400, so $350 for a used one is very optimistic. Figure $300 for the used gun, add $75 for the VQ kit (to the right buyer) and maybe $50 for the extra magazines. So I'm thinking a maximum of $425-$450 for the gun, magazines, VQ kit (with replaced parts), box and manual. Put the rest on Gunbroker or a WTS ad on RugerForum and just take what you can get.

Just checked Gunbroker, and lots of zeros on numbers of bids for any style of Mark III. That tells me local availability must be good everywhere. New ones are GB listing at $399, though, and the shipping and fees will add more. MSRP is about $550 now, and new about $450 at LGS.

I think I've settled on GB for the parts starting at $90, as just a mainspring housing assembly is $43.

LGS everything else at $490, and I'd clear $425.
