Hi I am a new member here and also a new gun owner. I have been to gun instruction class and have been practicing at the range for 6 months with my 1st gun which is a used P95 stainless semiautomatic. I really enjoy this gun and find my shooting is steadly improving with the weekly practice. I did pick up a couple boxes of Hornaday critical defense JHP to get a feel for them at the range. When I first got the gun I went to range and had problems with it, at first I thought it was the type of ammo I was using as it kept jamming on every shot, the shell casing was not ejecting all the way and getting stuck in the chamber. Still continued to Jam after I swtiched brands. I was losing confidence rapidly with this $ 275.00 purchase. I got lucky, a guy working at the range helped me out and showed me how to oiled and clean it. After that I ran over 400 rounds through it without one single jam. My confidence level is 100% now and I really trust it. This is a very cool gun especially for the price I paid for it. Any feedback from you all is greatly apprciated!! Glad I found this site!!

Glad to hear it turned out well. For some reason a lot of gun makers don't care if they send dirty guns out. My CZs worked from the start without preliminary cleaning, because they were sent out clean. That being said, I have to admit my P95, bought the first year of production, has worked perfectly from the moment I bought it, loaded and fired. Maybe your assembler had a bad day.

customf1,
First off....WELCOME to the site! :D

A shame you bought a P-95 they wear out at around 1000 rounds!
NOT... ...JUST BROKE IN!

My STAINLESS P95 is one of my most trusted house guns!

GET/NO WAY A SHOT....
But of course learning how to clean the gunk out will help ...lol
Highly suggest ya contact RUGER for an owners manual...odds are will get it for free.

I am a HUGE FAN of the P-series guns
{OWN TWO TRUSTED MODELS}..I think ya made a GREAT CHOICE :!:

I suspect at the same time the range guy showed you how to clean and oil the P95 he might have given you a hint on how better to hold the pistol.

Glad you like it... problems with these are few and far between.

Yeah at first the range guy thought I might have been limp wristing it causing it to jam but I handed him the gun to shoot and it also jammed on him. I have the non decocker model with the two safteys on both sides. What I like to do for home defense is load a bullet in the chamber the hammer is now up in single action mode. Then flip the saftey to "on" which decocks the pistol, lowers the hammer, maybe I have this hammer up/down thing reversed? In any case I now have it locked and loaded in double action mode. I think its better at this point to flip the saftey to off and have it ready to shoot unlocked in double action mode. That way I don't have to fumble around with the saftey if I need to use it. Any comments are appreciated.

You mode of home use, loaded chamber, safety off, is just fine. In that mode it is much like a revolver for that first shot, and no-one thinks they are terribly unsafe.

I have the de-cocker only version, so mine is always in the same, hammer down, loaded chamber, state.

LOL, the CZs come bagged in oil!

I tried to make my P95 jam, nothing I did would make it malfunction: Sideways, limp wrist, upside down, thumb and middle finger only holding as loose as I could without dropping it. Cycled every time. I guess I could try not cleaning it, but I don't know if I could live with myself.

Enjoy the P95..its a great pistola!. Never jamed on me..but teaching my son he limp wristed it several time @ 1st and caused FTE..but with minimal practice & a grip change..hes shootin like a pro now.

I think you are fine with your method.... many of us have the decock model that doesn't even have a safety... they are kind of like yours in that they will allow the hammer to safely fall with out pulling the trigger but there is no locked setting that keeps you from pulling the trigger. You are treating your safety model just like that.

No big deal, but if you load the chamber with the saftey engaged you don't have to decock it. Round is chambered and hammer stays down. I too keep mine ready to fire in DA without the saftey engaged.
You picked a good pistol.

I also keep my p95 safety off in double action mode for home defence. MY Kel-tec PF-9 doesn't have any manual safety at all.. its double action all the time....

The trick is to leave about 1/8" or so of space between the web of your hand and the tang... It will jam ever 4-5 rounds.... :D

My wife discovered that one... I thought she was limp wristing because it NEVER jammed for me, but she couldn't get more than 5 shots off without some kind of jam... once she moved her had all the way up on the grip, problem solved....

When I bought my P95 the DC version was the only one offered. I wanted a safety type, but have gotten used to the DC and have no problems with having that type.

I'll try the "wife hold" and see what happens.
