I bought a new P90 and of course it has the 8 round mags. I just got off the phone with Ruger and ordered 2 followers and springs to change these to the old style 7 round mags. I did this to help prevent the gouging of the frame caused by the 8 rounders when the metal follower slips forward. The springs and plastic followers cost 13.50 shipped. I was just wondering if anyone else may think this is a good idea. I am guessing Ruger is still using the same mag body for the 8 rounder as they did for the 7 rounder. I think I read about doing this either on this forum or another one somewhere but I can't remember. Signs of getting old I guess.

All the magazines for my KP90DC have the plastic follower for the same reason, besides that I prefer 7 rounders in my 1911s (never had feed problems becuase of them; can't say that about some 8 round magazines).

Welcome to the Board! You did right by changing them out. I caught mine in time before it did any up-repairable damage. If you want you can cut the plastic followers down to where it will hold 8, but I'm happy leaving mine just with 7.

When I bought my KP90 the two mags that came with it and two ordered separate were all trash. Lots of last round FTF with all four mags. I got the gun & all four "repaired" mags back from Prescott & no problems since. Till I saw the crater in my magwell... :evil:
I've converted 2 mags to 7 rounders & will be testing soon. If they work well I'll do the other two as well.
Ruger needs to lift their game in the quality department. They're in serious danger of losing their "good gun for the money" rating if people are needing to spend more $$$ to make their weapons function properly...
IMO making your customers spend $$$ to keep stock parts from damaging each other is VERY weak... :roll:

I have not yet noticed this problem but don't have a high round count. If this were a consistent problem wouldn't it also affect the P345 to an even greater extent and wouldn't P97s also show the damage? If it produced "irreparable" damage, would not Ruger do something to remedy the situation rather than have to deal with irreparable pistols being shipped back to them. I ain't saying you guys are wrong, just saying this whole deal is kinda weird.

The damage on P90s is just below the barrel's feed ramp, so in most cases it is more cosmetic than detrimental to function. I wonder how many have this damaged and not noticed it. That said, why risk the damage occurring? Spring replacement is a fact of life in semiautomatic pistols and the poly followers are not that expensive (it's just an early spring replacement in my book). IMO, the skirted poly follower is less likely to nose dive or leave the magazine than the Devel style follower. If you miss the extra capacity, 8 round Wilson spring kits with followers will work in P90 magazines.
