I need to know what serial nuber range the magazines for the P85 changed and what the change was. I saw somewhere that the change happened around number 304-6999 but that does not make sense to me since I have seveal Ruge mags for my P85 withe serial no. 300-52xxx and they all work. It has bent sent back to Ruger and is marked as a mark 2. Does that make a difference in the mags that can be used in it?

The mags for the 85 never changed. they changed for the 89 model. Any and all 85 mags will work in your old gun. The mark 2 deal was for firing pin change nothing to do with mags.

roylt,
Thanks fpr the reply.
How are the P89 and newer P series 9mm 15 round mags different than the P85 mags. I was going to get a newer P95 and planned on using all the mags I have for the P85 in the P95. I now think I will try to find another P85.

The old mags typically work fine in the newer guns. The newer mags are just slightly "taller" and interfear with the ejector. That is why the newer mags don't fit the old guns. They run out of room to seat properly. Get a 95, you will like it.

Thanks, I must have all old model 15 and 14 round mags. I can not see any difference in heght beteen them and the 4 factory uger mags I have. All lock up when inseeted in my p85.

There are older P89s, early SN's that have the same early mags as your P85..... I have a KP89DC like that. Not all Mags will work it in... but the 17RD Mec-Gar P85-P95 Mags will work in them.... and more importantly.... they fit flush as well.

At least they fit and lock up.... I have not shot that KP89DC yet (don't say it Roy :) ). I tried to fit other newer mags in that KP89DC and they hang up or don't lock up..... but they work well in my newer P series guns. Then I discovered the 17Rd Mec-Gar Mags fit well in it.

I was considering selling that KP89DC..... still might, but at least now I have more mags that will fit it.

HAHA.

I just got a couple mecgar too, they look great. (I'm typically a factory only guy but these were cheap enough to try. Plus I think mecgar made the original old style for ruger.)

I think Mec-Gar did make the factory mags. I got 5 or 6 of em before the prices jumped up. I had some already, but only two of the 17rd Mags...... and those fit fine in my early KP89DC whereas the others I had did not (too tall) and slide would not function. That is what prompted me to get more of the 17rd mags..... they fit P85-P95 and all I got just fine.

Not all my other mags will fit that early KP89DC.... and would be the only reason I would consider getting rid of it.... otherwise it's very sharp. And that one does not have the DC lever on the right side ..only the left, right side is flush. Not sure why tho.
