Our 4 PM floods!

Started yesterday,July 4th, about 4 PM huge cloud forms over area and we got like 5 inches of rain with in an hour.

Today all fine other than hot and humid and right at 4 PM we get hammered again!
Not as hard but raining heavy for the last 3 1/2 hours.

A good 7 inches of rain since yesterday!

Be glad when this system moves on!!

Central Va. Supposed to dry out a bit over the weekend I hope. Need to get down to my range area to cut the grass.

A bit further south of you,, and we are enjoying our daily rain pattern as well. Just about the time I THINK the grass is dry enough to cut,,, it rains,, hard for a bit,,, soaking everything. Yet, nearby,,, a friend says she hasn't had rain in over a week. We've had afternoon rain daily for over a week.

It's that ONCE a year thing that happens sometimes in SoCal in order to screw up the freeways and confuse the drivers. Sometimes its been known to last 30 days.

It's nothing like living here in the great south. You get up in the morning to 78° Temps and 80% humidity, then it gets hot and humid as the day warms up. Somewhere between 3 and 5 it clouds up and rains a few inches in 45 minutes, then the sun comes back out and steam rises. It really gets hot then. I can remember working in the tobacco fields when I was young and praying for that thunderstorm in the afternoon just so the sun would not be baking on me for a few minutes.
It's home and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Interesting the rain patterns in different parts of the country.

3.32" is the Portland record daily rainfall, set in 1977.

I feel I live in the rainiest part of the country. In the dank, dark, mossy, wet Pacific Northwest, west of the Cascades, my area gets 154 days of rain per year. That sounds like a lot, until you figure we get 43 inches of rain per year. That averages roughly 1/3" per day of rain. If we had 5 inches in any given day, every river in the area would be over its banks.


I borrowed this from a local site...according to bustle, we get 43 inches of rain on average in a year and 154 rainy days per year. the rainiest city in the united states is not forks, washington but rather mobile, alabama! they get 67 inches of rain but only have 59 rainy days per year.
