Online ammo shipping dates backed up.

Ordered several hundred rounds of Federal 124 grain HST in 9mm, some .380 Remington HP and some .38 Special 110 grain HP Federal HST on the 7th. A note at the retailer site said that due to high volume of orders the expected shipping date will at the earliest be Friday the 13th, and maybe as late as Tuesday the 17th . A friend in town bought his first AR15, a Ruger, upon my advise, and the same HUGE dealer he traveled to said they were sold out of 5.56x45 due to a nationwide run on the caliber. I advised him to buy online as I do every few years but I think he's hesitant about getting on some "list" (which I really believe we are all on anyhow...).
I guess I've missed information about a run on ammunition(?). But I still see .22LR well-stocked at local retailers, and priced at about 4 1/2 cents a round online for my preferred CCI and Federal brands. Granted, I only buy a few calibers and I cast for and load my own range ammo so I lead a sheltered life.
Am I missing information on some run on ammo? Or is it the often-seen election year buying behavior?

Give Georgia Arms a try.... I've bought on line from them in the past and it worked out well. but usually I just go our local gun show where they have a booth and pick it up there.....factory reloads. usually bulk in a 30 caliber ammo can....

SGAmmo is my preferred retailer. As an example, the 9mm was somewhere around 60 cents a round (50 round box) versus 90 to 1.10 a round anywhere else I looked. But again, there's the slightly delayed shipping time. No problem for me with that though. I couldn't even find this 9mm locally. Good folks. Oh. They did charge me KY sales tax. Didn't expect that. Maybe everyone is doing that now though. Just took me by surprise. Don

I use Targetsports nearly exclusively. Deliveries have not been impacted. I order the ammo, and the ammo is soon delivered.

Several online ammo places have 223 for under $300/1000 and 9mm under $200/1000 delivered.
Delays may be more of an individual seller getting behind on shipping. I saw a few places that were noting possible delays but most were business as usual.

Another big SG Ammo fan, here. Good prices, selection, fast shipping at a reasonable rate. Sam typically has a note on the site regarding what day your order will ship, and it’s usually within a day or two.

One more thing- SG Ammo didn’t price gouge anywhere near as much as many others, last time we had a huge run on ammo. His prices on items I buy went up a little, but stayed relatively the same until he was just “sold out.”

I dropped him a note at the time recognizing this fact, telling him that I appreciated that fact, and I would continue to buy from him because of that fact.

Other than .22 rim fire, I have not bought loaded ammo in over 30 years. (Just a week ago I bought several thousand rounds of .22 for just $15 per 500 round brick or 3 cents per round.) The prices these days are breathtaking. Long ago I bought enough powder, primers, cases, and bullets of all of the calibers I shoot to last me the rest of my life. I bought a huge supply of .44 and .45 lead bullets off Craigslist for a fraction of the store prices. Some of the odd things on current pricing, even in bulk, it that .41 magnum ammo is almost twice as expensive as .44 magnum. Roughly 50 cents per round versus $1. Shooting two cylinder loads of .41 magnum for the price of a steak dinner would suck. Thank goodness for reloading.

Don, that sales tax thing is going to become commonplace since the Wayfair v S Dakota decision allowed States to require out of state retailers to charge the recipient's local sales tax when shipping into their State. Due to the formula for who has to collect sales tax this way, many smaller vendors may be exempt from one State or another, but the bigger ones are probably all bound by this decision.
