My city has been torn apart by the rising crime rate. The Attorney General of the US has appeared here, and suggested harsher sentencing for criminals. What happened? The community members quickly rose in protest. What? put folks in jail? No, no, train them, rehabilitate them. Provide more jobs, provide better education. Throw more money (taxpayer money) into more programs.

The mass of folks fail to realize that most crimes are committed by repeat offenders, repeat offenders who should have been locked up in the first place. All too often suspects are described as "having served one year of a ten year sentence" or something equally ridiculous.

One of our biggest problems today is the breakdown of the home. A home where there are both parents present. Women's Lib and the abortionist's stance freed women from their rightful place in the home. And it is a lie that it requires husband and wife both to work to maintain a living. The fact is that it takes both working to maintain their desired standard of living.

Youth need a sound home, with firm parental guidance. A home with strong ethics taught, and proper respect for religious values. A home with responsibility taught and practiced. Forget racial equality, ethnic concerns; instead instill values of right and wrong. Respect for other people's rights and property. Teach self respect. Youth should take pride in their appearance, and be taught to do so.

Good post. I keep track of things up there since I have relatives in the Memphis area, and lived there myself once upon a time. Memphis has always been a tough town, but it has gotten worse in the last several years. Many of the folks around here won't go to Memphis at all anymore, and those that must, always go armed.

Look at what the past POTUS sold or allowed to be sold to the public thru the media, police are killing black people, police are beating up black people, police arrest way to many black people. Black people get to long of prison sentences. Allow marches and take overs of city parks, buildings public and private, allow people to burn down their cities. Allow people to block the freeways, hang from bridges blocking shipping. Allow people to protest legal businesses to the point of shutting them down. Seen to me he wanted to make every class of person in the US a victim of male white America. The POTUS going on national TV saying a officer who did his job, followed the law acted stupidly. Then most all Demo, governors and mayors followed his lead. When those who stood up with real facts or asking the police to take away protesters blocking their business. They were attacked by the media or those on the streets. Instead of a message about young folks go to school, get a job, buy a house raise a family. No more help built this county, it was lets tear it down. In the last few years, we police stop a speeding vehicle at 3am, going 80mph in a 55 zone. If it is a person of color , we get yelled at that we only enforce laws against then not the white people. They shove cameras in our face and yell. I am not the only one who believes we now have many people who cannot or will control there own bad or illegal behavior. Where as that type of person was rare, not so much now.

Our prisons have become criminal teaching environments, with a spa like atmosphere. Tv, gym, library, gangs abound and are allowed to run a lot of the show. Drugs are prevalent. It's time to make prison a place that you DO NOT want to go, rehab is not working for most of the prisoners! Once released a large number are back with in a year. The bleeding hearts have had their way much too long, it's time to get tough, put the prisoners back to work for the good of society, no pay, you are in prison to pay your debt to society, therefore you have to work off your debt.

Unless this country quits giving freebies to all but the truly sick, crippled etc nothing will change and only get worse. Either work, starve or plan on getting shot if caught stealing would turn the country around.
Bob is "wright"! By quitting the way it was in our time and going from Ozzie and Harriet to Ozzie Osborn is what got us in this fix. Pro choice, sex education, outlawing parents using corporal punishment, unrestricted welfare to baby mills, unenforced immigration laws, unbridled porn and smut on TV and movies, all sitcoms depicting fathers as weak comical imbeciles, young spoiled snots as cool. The devils best tools is all the above pushed by the satanic left.

In some way I agree, however, the "woman,s place is in the home" is antiquated. My Dad worked at his job as a carpenter while my Mom was a credit manager for Montgomery Ward then as an insurance agent. Somehow both my brother and I turned out OK. Values, not location, is what determines how many turn out.

I like to quote the words of the late Professor Elizabeth Fox-Genovese, who said:
"By declaring reproductive freedom to be women's exclusive right, it dismisses the claims of men and cancels their obligations to the next generation."
And the late Governor Robert Casey, who with other pro-life Democrats tried to warn the Democratic Party that their fanatical advocacy of abortion on demand gave what they called "irresponsible and vindictive men" the perfect excuse.
One of the great unaddressed issue of the day is the widespread rejection by men of the tradition role of provider and protector-"Had two, wanted none." is their mantra.
And a lot of people need to watch the video "Swipe Yo' EBT!", then we'll discuss "poverty" and welfare dependence. Who needs a husband when your rich Uncle Sam will take care of you?

Why do so many still, for some reason, refuse to call a spade a spade? We all recognize that there is a problem and it has been growing since the 1960's. Why do most of us continue to come up with various "causes, examples of reasons, even partial solutions", when the bottom line is the Democrat party Agenda. Yes, there are numerous little details that are obvious that could benefit, if they would work. We all know that we are whistling in the Wind with any of them so long as we permit Democrats to control their Agenda.

Most of the serious problems in our country today are Democrat deliberately caused problems and we will not see any reversal until we all call a spade a spade and work to eradicate all Democrats Agenda control. We need to get the RINO's out, and elect real Americans to counter the Dems.

Buddy, I'm gonna get up the roof and wave my flag, take a picture and copy your words and send it out to every contact on my list. Amen Brother.

Well all I can say is gimmie back my 50's and 60's ! The BEST time to have been a kid and BEST to be raising them!

You can't fix the hood. You can only move away from it and watch it implode from a distance. Detroit and Flint Michigan are complete disaster zones. I wouldn't walk into either city without a 12 gauge on low ready. However.... If you move out to the Western and Northern parts of the State, you'll never find nicer people and more beautiful countryside. Life is too short to live amongst scum.

Wasn't it Chiraq's head where the sun don't shine mayor who barred Chik-Fil-A from opening stores in his city because their traditional Christian values were not Chicago values? You would think that gang infested swamp could really use a good dose of traditional Christian values to help with some of their problems.

Hi,

Many years ago, a couple of us took a weekend trip from college in San Diego to Yuma, AZ. There we went to see the Yuma Territorial Prison, which was not yet restored the way it is today. The cells we saw were dinky, around 6' x 8' perhaps, but something like 12 feet high. There was no roof on them. Anyone who's been to Yuma in the summertime can imagine how hot it got in them, and winter time's no joy when it drops into the 30s or even 20s, either.

The fellow leading the tour told us YTP had the lowest recidivism rate of any prison in the US when it was in operation. The lady in front of me asked why that was. He answered, "Well, Ma'am, if you LIVED thru your first time here, you certainly didn't want to come back!"

Years later, a friend worked in the CA prison system, post-Jerry Brown's first term as Governor with his "Prisoners Bill of Rights" and other feel good stuff. Among her jobs was handling the paperwork for releases, and she said they "unofficially" tracked how long "Inmate A" would be out on parole before he was back. That "tracking" only ran for 30 days from their release date, and a majority of those released had violated parole, or committed new crimes, and were back in less than half that time...

Now Jerry's turning 'em loose because the prisons are so crowded. I get messages from the Sheriff's Dept. on the phone advising which of their most active bad guys is doing what. Very seldom does a report NOT involve someone out on parole. What a sorry change, eh?

The problem is we have more citizens in our prisons per capita than any other country on the planet and that has not solved the crime problem....

And who would expect it to? Prison time is now a farce. Criminals usually serve only a small percentage of their sentence, and live better than maybe half the population does. Just about anything a criminal needs gets smuggled in to him while in prison, and one begins to wonder about who should be on which side of the bars.

As has been stated on this thread, prison time only serves to lend "street cred" to thugs.

Serving full sentences does alleviate one problem: getting the criminal off the street. Seems to me to be a good idea to try that for awhile.

The problem is that our prisons aren't really punitive. There is no real reason for folks to avoid prison.

Do two things. Execute those on death row (a dead person never committed another crime). And second, make prison an unpleasant experience instead of a vacation for repeat offenders.

Neither of these things will, sadly, ever happen. Too many bleeding hearts.

I'm perfectly OK with the people we currently have in our prisons. The only change I'd make is to build cheaper prisons with fewer amenities. Cheaper food. No air conditioning. No school. No television. No basketball court. No weight room. Think "prisoner of war camp."

I am right there with you, Mr. Bob. Come about 200 miles South and you will see that Jackson is right there with Memphis when it comes to crime. Jackson may even be worse! We got out of Jackson 30 years ago and we are so glad we did!! I expect to see the State of MS have to take over Jackson one day just to provide city services to the residents. The city is struggling financially, the tax base (residents and businesses) has left the city, and corruption has run wild. So very sad.

Well JUST MAYBE that is because they have become RESORTS compared to the area those criminals came from and they NEVER serve their FULL sentence; they never get the additional time the use of a FIREARM should add on and Killers these days get a lifetime free ride instead of a trip to the little green room. WHY do Killers get to SIT on death row for 20+ years while lawyers make a ton of money filing nonsense appeals.

Don't get me wrong guys and gals... part of me agrees with y'all. I was totally flabbergasted about 10 or 15 years ago while I was pumping gas one day (here in S.C.) there was a new sticker on the gas pump showing a state trooper holding a driver's license and under this it said, "if you drive off with out paying you could lose 'this'". Until that day I thought if I drove off with out paying I would be arrested and put in prison and thus the last thing I would be worrying about was having a license to drive......
