I am trying to figure out a fair value for a old model vaquero that is a 44 mag long barrel case hardened and blued it is in good shape. Not trying to get rich just looking to see if there is any interest in this.

Lots of variables involved there. One mans "good condition" is another's fair condition. By "long" barrel,I assume it to be 7 1/2". The 7 1/2" guns are more scarce than other lengths but also less sought after by most people.
A shooter would bring somewhere in the $400 range in my area if mechanically sound.

OM version in 44mag and case hardened is worth a premium, one went on gunbroker last month for $650 in VC condition.

A guy can't really base his "comps" for gun prices on Gun Broker. I've seen stainless Vaquero 44mags go over $900 on Gun Broker - same models that I've bought for $450-500 in recent years. I almost bought a 7.5" CCH Vaquero 44mag with faux ivory Ruger grip panels that went for $489 a couple weeks ago - only reason I didn't was the fact I just don't buy blued guns.

I've found gunbroker prices on older products to be very reasonable and consistent compared to local pawn shops, armslist and gun shows. Lots of people are looking for the older model Vaquero in 44mag, last time I saw one at a local gun show in stainless 44mag they were asking $850 and I expect it'll sell for ~$750. There's a 44mag stainless Vaquero on the local armslist and the seller wants $850 firm. I see 'em on GB for around $550~$650 for stainless or case-hardened, if someone offered me a 44mag Vaquero for $400 I'd jump on it. Then there's the guy that always gets the best deals of anyone and is always one-upping, never easy to tell how much of it is BS....

$500 +/- $50 depending on how bad I wanted it and seller wanted to move it.
Allegedly less than 5% of the Original Size VAQUEROS were 7.5 inch guns. Not many 44 magnums compared to 357 or 45 colt were produced.
Gunbroker or gunauction have been my best sources and most reasonable prices for items like this.

I have an Old Model Vaquero in .44 mag that I gave $600 for in a gun shop. but get this, it had a Bob Munden #1 action job, complete with the Bob Munden work order! Words are inadequate to describe the trigger and the smoothness of this thing.

I learned a big lesson from this. When browsing a gun store, always get down and examine the dark, obscure corners of the bottom shelf in a gun case, because that's where it was. If the words "Munden Action" had not been on the price tag, I probably would have not even looked at the gun.

Ron, you should have run out and bought lottery tickets after that score! The gunsmith bill had to be close to that price.

I bought an Original Size VAQUERO in 44 mag that had been cut to 3.5 inches, magna-ported, superb total blue finish, and some other cosmetics for $350 out the door several years ago. Someone took a big loss on that gun. It wears a DRAGOON grip frame and Paul Persinger ivories now.
