OM Single Six questions

I have not seen it in person but have the opportunity to be first in line. Condition sounds like about a 7. Some light scratches and some bluing loss mostly on the left side. Serial number is 5212XX. Not converted. I am told this is a 22 magnum only, with no long rifle cylinder.

If this is in fact a true magnum only, should it be stamped this way on the frame???

If I was to find the right size LR cylinder, would it function properly???

What would be a reasonable price for this one???

Cosmetic issues, .22 Mag (only) caliber, may or may not be missing a cylinder.....I'm thinking $200, $50 more of it's a 4-5/8" model, maybe kick-in another $50 if has the XR3 grip frame.

Assuming that all the mechanicals are in order...yes, it'll function fine as a 22LR if you find a cylinder that fits properly. Sometimes ya get lucky with that, sometimes not. If it's the "not", you'll have to find one that's close enough to have fitted. Either way though, you can expect to spend another $60-$150 (or so) to what you've already got in the gun....and it'll still need refinished.

The OM Single-Sixes that were magnum marked have a serial number range of 300000 to 398349. With that serial number it's most likely a an SC type gun. (SC is for the OM Super Single-Six Convertible.) However, there is a reported RARE variation, (SC6M) that is a magnum only version. According to the RENE, only 1 known, with a reported 15 made.
So, unless you get it verified with a factory letter as a SC6M, it is most likely a convertible gun missing the LR cylinder.

Good info above, bottom line to those of us 'looking' for "parts" guns, we pay $250, or as they like to say "the sum of the total of the parts....." can find them for less, but "CONDITION IS EVERYTHING" other wise, a shooter, and /or a "parts" gun.....................now if you have to ship it anywhere, or pay transfer fees, then the price can get a bit TOO 'pricey.............the "pucker factor" then enters into the equation :wink: :roll:

What Ty said. Your serial number dates it as 1966, and the magnum only was not made after 1964, unless it was one of the VERY rare ones Ty mentioned. The "magnum only" had the magnum rollmark on the frame and had only the 6.5" barrel. However (and there's always a however with Ruger), according to RENE there were a few 6.5" versions with the mag rollmark among the first convertibles when they were introduced.

Sounds like a great "shooter" for the right price.

I'd not let the missing .22LR cylinder stop me if the gun could be had for the right price and I were looking for this model. The cylinder can likely be found here for under $100.

One thing to note! Only the Single-Sixes from serial number 300,000 to 340086 will have the "RUGER SINGLE-SIX WIN. .22 RF MAG. CAL." stamped on the frame. The Super Single-Sixes never had this stamping on the frame they all had "RUGER .22 CAL. SINGLE-SIX"rollmarked on the frame. And as a note the Mag. only 6 1/2 in bl. Single-Sixes after serial number 340086 will only have "RUGER .22 CAL. SINGLE-SIX"rollmarked on the frame. And the only way to tell if they are Mag. only is to get a letter from Ruger.
