old stag grips

I have some old stag grips that I would like to install Ruger medallion’s. What would be the best way to drill a hole and install them without breaking the grips.

I'd ask someone like Patrick Grashorn to do it (for a fee). Can be touchy.

Otherwise, drill a pilot hole and mask of a drill bit to the correct depth. Practice on some old deer horns (?)

Forstner bit in a drill press. They drill a nice FLAT Bottom hole.
They also have a center pilot so you can drill for the stem afterwards.
Slow and easy will get it. ps

I'm guessing that the proper drill bit to do the job will cost about as much as having a knowledgeable person (who already has said tool) do the job.
