I got it from Grice gun shop when I got my first wrangler . I remember talking to the clerk about lack of catalogs . He went to closet and came back with the one I pictured . I don't recall the reason why they were "secret " . Maybe a call to ruger would gain an explanation ?That's a nice one Billy. I never saw that one before.....I can say from Stockton to Fresno, I never saw a catalog after 2012. Then again this is California.......160 pages. Nice.

I don't know , they have a magazine rack that has lots of handouts for bullets , some gun companies etc. They were on a serve yourself basis . Last time I was there months ago not much there , henry , Mossberg as I recall on Gun companies . I know savage dropped printed catalogs a few years ago as well .So they were hiding them in a closet ?? Maybe you should go back there. They may have all the Ruger catalogs there in hiding !!Well at least you got yours. Why would they want to keep them all locked up, I wonder ?? Strange......

Ok, first off, yes I have the ones you asked about.
I have a complete set of printed catalogs from the first flyer in 1949 until the last year of the printed catalog. That year was 2020.
I have some of the printed foreign ones, many of the dealer price sheets, (including some foreign ones,) distributor lists, LEO catalogs,, etc. I built a library of the printed stuff as a reference of what the factory would offer. Sadly,, once they went electronic,, it became nearly impossible to keep up,, as they could easily post something, then later remove it, and we could miss items.

Sadly,, many of the newer catalogs don't sell very well. Too many published. The older ones,, (pre 1968) seem to do better. Then there are a few after 1968 that can command a price. I seem to recall a total of (4) different covers for 1983,, and the .357 Maxi on it. The variations are in the layout of the wording & all. Add in the fact that the Maxi only lasted 2 years,, those do sell.

Priorities... contender is a great guy and friend. I enjoy seeing him when I get the chance and actually hope to make it to one of his shoots.
Yeah, hopefully I get to meet him one day too. For that matter, maybe meet you too Watertender !! I think that Contender has forgotten more about Ruger than most people could ever know. In another thread about meeting and knowing Mr. Ruger himself and being at a factory. That sure sounds like a lot of fun......no wonder he has all the catalogs......He's been there.
I think we now know why they were kept in a closet. Contender says 2020 was the last real catalog. The shop must have known this and maybe they wanted to keep a few thinking they would be worth a few bucks down the road.....In other words, good for you Billy, you got the last real catalog year that was made....

As with any paper items,, a lot depends upon condition and how scarce they may be. Ruger catalogs,, depending upon the year, and what's highlighted or listed as "new" can affect the values. The early 50's ones,, with the Single-Six, the Blackhawks, the Bearcat, or the Lightweights,, all can be from about $50-$200. The 1960's ones with the 10/22, the Hawkeye, the Deerstalker,, all can be from about $30-$100. By the 1970's,, and the roadmap types,, usually about $5-$15. And later ones,, about $5 or even a selection of a couple can be just $5. But the ones with the Security-Six, or the .357 Maxi,, can be a little more.
Folks who collect, and especially who do displays like to have the earliest material to go with a display. Models of guns that are desirable or collectable,, their paperwork is also collectable.

That makes perfect sense about the age of the catalog and just as important the guns that were in it. Classics like the SS and the Blackhawk, 10/22, etc etc. Especially when they were "new" and are still are around today. Makes perfect sense for sure.....Speaking of "catalogs" I am right now looking at an American Rifleman mag dated April 1987. In this American Rifleman, Ruger has their 1987 " Coming on Strong" catalog right in the magazine. This the one with blue cover and the bear on it. I always liked this catalog. A lot of good guns are in it. I especially like the picture of the Newport plant with all of the employees outside in a nice arial shot that is celebrating "another one-millionth product". It was the M-77 which at that time joined the ranks of 5 other Ruger guns....and right above the picture is the "New" Ruger P-85 !!! Great catalog !!
