I have a single six 3 screw, serial number 61-01xxx which puts it at about mid-1972 production. What kind of design grips can I use with this? Can I just purchase the new single six wood grips ruger sells on their website or will they not fit?

According to this website I have the XR3-RED grip frame which is what they still use today, right? Or am I mistaken?

You are correct. XR3-RED

Here is a good education;

Welcome

ohhhh I see your allready found it. That should answer most, any & all questions on Ruger Grip Frames.

Correct Grips would be oil filled walnut w/black eagle or might be oil filled walnut w/flat shiny white eagle/ squashed chicken. If your trying to get it back to historically correct then your going to need a ship date. If you just want some grips that will work there's a zillion places to get em from $20-$200.

I just bought an old single six at a estate sale. It is well used but appears in pretty good shape. Except it does not have grips. I would like to get a pair of orginal grips for this revolver.
It is a Ruger .22 Cal Single Six three screw serial number 840xx with XR3 stamped into the butt. But alas no grips.
I would like to keep it original looking so a pair of used not abused grips would be what I would like. But I will not pay an obsene price.
And I'm not to proud that I wouldn't take a freebe :lol:

Here's one I have. S/N 81370

The grips, in nice condition, bring around $100 these days. You best bet for some cheaper grips will be to scour your local yard sales and gunshows.

Your right scouring is what I do. So with that in mind, check your closets and boxes of junk and help me find a set of original grips. :lol:

or find them , like this #61,xxx early round gate with a pair of pointer pups on it................got it Sunday at the show......
