old model hammer question

I have an old model .44 mag Blackhawk. The trigger sets to far forward in the trigger guard, like the safety notch is sheared...but it is not, the hammer looks fine to me. I am wondering if someone put a single six hammer in this gun ?

I'd be taking a hard look at the sear-edge of the trigger.

Do you have a Single-six hammer to lay beside it? The SS hammer is "shorter." And remember if it's a SBH,,, you will have a wide hammer spur.
But DGW1949 has a good point. Check the trigger too!

Yup, the trigger snapped at the sear surface. That is what I thought initially, but at a glance it looked ok at first, but under a magnifying glass, it is quite obvious that it is broken . Time to scrounge a trigger.
