Old Army Conversion opinions Please

Any opinions as to the best conversion setup for an old army?

Any that leave the factory parts in place so it looks BP?

What kind of conversion do you have in mind?
Many folks add a 45 Colt cylinder to their OA's.

45 Colt is fine if that matches the barrel diameter best.

I went with a Howell (R&D) conversion cylinder. Kirst makes one too. The only thing needed is just the conversion cylinder...you can keep your plunger, loading lever, etc in place if you like. Or, get a Belt Mountain base pin if you want to steamline the look...your choice.

Sorry, I've probably spent more time studying cartridge conversions than anything else. I just like mine to have some historical significance and a loading gate. Removing the cylinder to reload it every five shots seems weird.

Now we are getting somewheres,purdy pistolas. I don’t want the gated conversion. I’ve decided I want the Uberti 1858 Target Carbine with a Skinner dovetail ghost rear and 1858 5.5” pistol for my purpose. I figure the Federal 225gr wadcutter HP and CCI shot shells will do the trick for my purpose.

I’m assuming the same 45 Colt conversion cyl will fit both?
