I picked up a 45-70 Ruger No. 3 WITHOUT being drilled for scope base screws. I see in an old RENE there was mention of 1750 rifles made without scope base holes and this rifle falls in the serial range given.

My original plan was to line the barrel into another caliber but if it's collectable, I might rethink that. It's not pristine as there are several handling dents in the wood but the metal is fine with the lever turning a plum shade. No box or papers.

I looked on the auction sites but did not find a value if I decided to sell it. Any idea of a value?

I dont remember where i read it but i seem to remember that only the first 200 were not drilled and tapped and also had the blind screw head on one side of the lever screw i have owned two of them sold one and still have #46 pretty sure they were all in 45-70

I'd just modify it to suit my needs without any concerns whatsoever. Doesn't seem to be anything special about not being drilled and tapped.
