A Scary Obituary

In 1887 Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh , had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior: "A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship."

"The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the
beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200
years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage."

The Obituary follows:

Born 1776, Died 2016

It doesn't hurt to read this several times.
Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law in
St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning
the last Presidential election:

Number of States won by: Obama: 19 Romney: 29
Square miles of land won by: Obama: 580,000 Romney: 2,427,000
Population of counties won by: Obama: 127 million Romney: 143 million
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:
Obama: 13.2 Romney: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory
Romney won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country.

Obama territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in low income tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."

Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase..

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegal's - and they vote - then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

If you are in favor of this, then by all means, delete this message.

If you are not, then pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom..

I haven't the time to go thru this piece by piece:

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2013-01-03/final-tally-shows-obama-first-since-56-to-win-51-twice

States was 26 Obama, 24 Romney.

It's always a good idea to attempt to fact check things before posting them. I know fact checking isn't always easy or even possible.

Carry on!

Hoax --

--According to Wikipedia, Tyler died in 1813.

-- Per Ask Fact Check, Professor Olson denies writing this:

"None of what appears in this e-mail was written by him. He has been denying authorship of this old hoax since earlier versions first cropped up after the 2000 election. Most recently he posted a disclaimer about the 2008 version on his university profile page:

"Olson: There is an e-mail floating around the internet dealing with the 2008 Obama/McCain election and the 2000 Bush/Gore election, remarks of a Scottish philosopher named Alexander Tyler, etc. Part of it is attributed to me. It is entirely BOGUS as to my authorship. I’ve been trying to kill it since December 2000."

To me, whoever is cited as the author of obit of a democracy is unimportant. What is important is if what was said is what we are seeing happen in the United States today.

All forms of government eventually destroy themselves by carrying their basic principles to excess.
Can't find the exact quote;however, it is one of the key segments from The Republic as put forth by Plato over 2000 years ago.
In reviewing the history of the past 2000 years, I cannot find a single example that would contradict that theory.
Have also seen it with the addition: Even the democracies eventually become so free that the little puppy dogs stand up on their hind legs clamoring for their rights. When that happens the people will surrender all liberty to anyone who will restore order.
I'm too old to live to see it happen;but, I think my grandchildren will.

I would posit that the process is far along and, in fact, you're watching it mature as we write.

Which is why our Government was set up as a Republic (A Demcratic Republic) and not a true Deomcracy where Majority Rules. Although you will never hear the words Democratic Republic come out of a Democrats mouth - Only Democracy - which we have been inexorably sliding towards for many years..

Republic or Democracy. Once it becomes corrupt and the electorate ignorant does it make a difference?

Go out and enjoy yourself. The USA is kaput and there is nothing that you can do about it. Between the millions of losers who supported Bernie Sanders because he promised he would take away assets of those that earned them and distribute them to the parasites of the nation, and the millions who worship at the feet of Hilary Clinton despite her lowlife character, dishonesty and total incompetence but she hates Republicans and that is enough for many of her fans, even if Trump prevails in November it is probably too late to save the nation. So stop fretting, stop giving yourself an ulcer, and just make the most of whatever time you have left on this earth. If the younger people of this nation are not willing to act rationally and morally, it will fail and fail miserably. So it is up to them to do the right thing, or live with the consequences. Unfortunately a lot of good people will suffer, but what else is new?

Vito: Bingo! Yup, and as a friend says: "Too much has flowed under the bridge and you cannot bring it back."

And come to think about it, I bet the old school Romans felt and said the same.
