Nut for a BX-25 magazine?

Where could I get a nut that goes on the bottom of a Ruger BX 25 Magazine? I called Ruger and the lady said they don’t sell magazine parts. I found one , but the diameter is too big to fit in the hole on the mag .It’s 4-40 thread. My sone took his apart, and lost the nut out of it.

This is a picture of my mag, the nut I have is too big to fit the hole.Of course Ruger has to use a odd size.Id say all the ones the hardware stores have will be the same size as the one I have I guess.I may just have to drill the hole out bigger and JB weld it in.

Might just call Ruger, I lost a tiny screw on my belt buckle the other day and couldn’t find one anywhere. I gave NexBelt a call and they sent me a half dozen. Beat the heck out of spending 60 bucks on a new belt.

Do you have a 4-40 bolt, cordless drill, and belt sander? If you do, tighten the nut on the bolt. Chuck the assembly up in your drill. Run the drill in the opposite direction of the belt travel on the sander. This will evenly turn down the outside diameter of the nut. It may end up round- but as long as you don’t take too much off it should be able to press-fit into the hole. Tighten it down, and put a small dab of crazy glue on the end to lock it in place.

I wouldn’t drill the hole bigger- it might weaken the shoulder in the plastic casting.

You also might be able to find a blind nut in the hardware store- basically a tube nut with a flange. Cut or file off the flange and you will have basically what I described making in the first paragraph.

Actually, I have 2 4-40 nuts. One is 1/4" the other is 7/32. Give me an address and I'll pop them in the mail.

( actually they didn't start out as 4-40, they were smaller. But I have a couple 4-40 taps…)

That said, if you don’t want to wait for snail mail, get a 4-40 tap and a nut that fits in the hole…

The ACE Hardware that I go to has 3 drawers of gun screws and nuts in both metric and standard thread. I have had good luck there

Yeah I’ve got gun screws from them before, but the ones they have in the trays are screws only no nuts.

Is it even a hex nut that goes in there? Looks like it might have been the round type with a lot of ridges on the perimeter (not sure what you call those) like you might see pressed into a handgun grip escutcheon.

I'm surprised they didn't offer to send you a nut for free. Usually, small parts like that are easily obtained with a simple call. Ask for a supervisor if the next person you speak with doesn't offer a nut for you.

And I'm guessing that they may not have spare parts like that readily available. I'm thinking they have a company that makes the magazines for Ruger building them,, and as such, may not have any in stock. BUT,, if so,, they should be able to get you in contact with the maker of the magazines.

Does anyone know what size it is? I saw 4-40 mentioned but not actually stated as the size needed.

I have 4-40's in large and small dia, 3-56, and 2-56 too.

^^^^^ This is what I was going to post. Ask Ruger who makes the BX25 and then contact the manufacturer and tell them what happened. They may send you what you need or in best case tell you to send the mag back and they will send you a new one.

EDIT: Just did some checking online: On the Ruger site; from 2011; "These are genuine Ruger factory magazines. We designed them. We didn't license and rebrand someone else's magazines," said Ruger CEO Michael Fifer.

So I would think the Ruger should be able to help you. If nothing else someone there should know what the nut size/configuration (hex, etc.) is.

I suspect someone like Magpul makes the magazine for them.

AGREE.... call again AFTER they've had time for a cup of coffee (or two)... it may just be a matter of getting a happier person..

If it were me, I would get a second nut and a long 4-40 screw about an inch or so long screw both nuts together so they don't move. Chuck the screw in a electric drill and take a file and round off the flats so the nut fits the cavity. JB weld the rounded nut in place. Then I would "admonish" my son to keep his "pecker tongs" off my stuff or I will kick his ass next time he takes my stuff apart. Another alternative is he has to buy a replacement magazine. I let two of my two boys pay a plumber once with their "Christmas Money". We never had that problem again.
The moral of the story is, "If you eff it up, you pay it up".

Well , I called Ruger back again and after being bounced around to 4 different people I was told unfortunately they do not have parts for the magazines.So it's no big deal, I can make a nut work by grinding it down and fitting it in the hole.

And Sam, it's my sons magazine THAT HE BOUGHT.Also if the POS hadn't jammed up he wouldn't had to taken it apart to get the ammo out of it!
