No.1S 30-06 24 inch barrel

Hello,

Seeking information from owners of the No.1S 30-06 with 24 inch barrels. Specifically, how does extra barrel length (weight) affect the gun? I have an A model in 308 and love it and have noticed the S models in 06. Seems like a nice set up. Tell me about yours.

I can tell you that I have its big brother in 35 Whelen in the 1S, which is probably a TINY bit lighter due to the bigger hole in the barrel, and I think it may be just about perfect in weight and balance. I've toyed with the idea of picking up a 1S '06 to make a pair, if I could find killer wood. Regards, 021

Sadly, my experience with the 24" barreled 1S's in 30/06 is that near all I have seen have had quite plain wood.
Except for the one I am keeping; might not be "killer", but it is pretty nice.

I like the barrel profile. I held one at a LGS and it seemed to balance nicely. Wood was average.

Hey Bill,
I have one from around 2015 and I really like it. I like the heavier barrel. It balances nicely and I can get more rounds down range with a little less of a beating. Mine does string a bit and I will attend to it before long. I like the lines of the S configuration. I need to learn how to post pictures so I could put one right here.
