Nickel Security-Six

Were there any factory nickel plated Security/Speed/Service-Sixes?

Well you know what they say, "Never say Never".

This gun has been on GA for the past year, it was priced higher for
awhile then was lowered to the current price.
I have sent two emails for more info and never got a response. With a plating company so close to the plant I believe anything is possible!
But I do not think this gun will letter as being Nickel Plated. JMO!!

I doubt if it will "letter" but I know one of the local shops used to send lots of guns down to AWP to be plated over the years.....could be stainless and someone polished the 'snot out of it', that wouldn't be hard to do these days, some GREAT polishes out to do the job.....it ONLY takes "time".

It doesn't look like SS in the pic. The yellow tone looks like nickel to me.

that was my first guess, but never know with digital pictures just what background and glare may be picked up in the photo...just wanted to say it is very easy to make it as shiny as nickel with enough polishing..........I would NEVER buy a gun , according to its "finish", from ANY photo.....tough enough to tell apart, them unless they are sitting side by side ( chrome ,nickel or stainless)

Finally got a serial# 150-03118, called Ruger this AM and as we thought
letters as a RDA-34. I ask her to check for any reference to being Nickel
plated and came up empty.

WMG has a gun that came from the factory that sure looks like nickel plating...but is probably a prototype to the high polish series circa '94 or so.

That is definately, a nickel Security-Six! I know this, because that exact serial number Was on the nickel Security-Six that was in the big Ruger collection where I'd obtained my group of lowback "Sixes" a few years ago, here in California. I then proceeded to contact Ruger Records and they also confirmed that gun had shipped as a RDA-34-so, I passed on buying it!

If one looks at the second picture
it is apparent that the gun is nickel plated and in pretty
good shape. Did you handle the gun your self or just run
the number? I think the gun would sell for a $100.00 less
than what they want now. Nice mystery gun :wink: :wink:

Yes, I handled that nickel Security-Six several times and had put the gun on hold, until I was able to ascertain through Ruger Records whether it was genuine or not. As I remember the gun didn't show any wear to it at all. I believe that it must have been nickel plated from a NIB RDA-84?

Yes, this was a topic of an earlier thread a year or so ago. Quite a few of the guns from this collection had something "off" about them. After the CA collectors picked over the guns, the leftovers, including this nickeled RDA, were sold off by GMA a couple years back. As I recall, this Security Six went for around $275. I had checked it out before the auction and decided not to bid.

Some of the other guns I recall were a 9.5" barreled OM adjustable sight Single Six that lettered as a SC6, mismatched box guns like flattops in Super Blackhawk boxes with "Super" and "S47" crossed out, etc. I have a printout somewhere of all the Rugers in that sale. Many of the boxes were altered in one way or another. Of the ones I did buy, all had kitchen type waxed paper in the boxes and many had mismatched manuals/warranty cards for the vintage of the gun.
