There is a NIB GP stainless 3 inch on Gun Broker. Price seems fair. These are non existant in this part of the world. I heard they are soon to be discontinued. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks

They will probably be arround for a long time. Many people purchase them instead of the lock 686.

Ruger constantly produces and then discontinues different models, especially the GP's. Quite often they don't even list them in the catalog. Some new .38 Special GP's have surfaced recently although they haven't been listed in the catalog for several years. Three inchers are hard to find anywhere, I can't remember ever seeing one under the glass around here.

Here's one of each flavor... half & full lug.

I'm glad to see that picture! I had a 3" GP100 a couple of years ago, and foolishly traded it away. I have regretted it ever since, and I haven't been able to find another one. I went into my local gun shop today to buy a SP101. As I was looking at them, I casually mentioned that I wished he had a GP100 in 3"...he grinned at me, reached under the counter and pulled one out! It was NIB, and marked $550...I didn't even hesitate on the price, and it is home with me now.

I was going to order some Pachmayr grips for it, but now that I've seen the pictures above, I'm thinking I'll see if I can get some compact grips for it. Or maybe both! The stock grips that come on it are just too big.

I thought they had been put to sleep a while ago.

I looked at the test fired shell envelope, and it was date stamped January 2011...I assume this is new production, since the test date is new. The gun shop owner said Ruger runs off a batch of these every few years, but they are not in continuous production. They are on the Ruger website as a current model, though.

Be sure to add in shipping from the seller and your receiving dealer will also charge a fee. Figure that in to the total cost.
I love my Stainless 3"GP100. It's the older model with the wood inserts in the grips. Found after trying other grips that the longer grips that come on the adj sight GP's served me better. YMMV

Wow I held a six inch GP100 at the range last time and man was that thing beefy, the 3 inch looks loads more smaller. Impressive looking.
