A local shop has about 4-5 Ruger Sixes for sale. Some are Police Six, some are Service Six, and some are Speed Six. All are 3" PD trade in's, and look Ok. Bit dinged up, but a little Flitz and some elboy grease should help that. They're all going for $375. Which is the one to go for. All seem to be solid. Kind of loose, but most Rugers feel that way.

Any 3" Six, is rare, so I suspect they're either 2-3/4" or 4".

Don't know what you mean, "loose, but Rugers are that way". Security Sixes are as tight as any quality revolver. If they're loose, are they worn out, or abused?

Anyway, I would sure like to see a more descriptive list of what these guns are. In a nut shell, the Speed Sixes would be the most desirable. But, any of these could be desirable.

Nope. They're 3" guns. By loose, I meant not as silky as a S&W. Cocking the hammer kind of "clanks" rather than "clicks".

What city? What store? I have a 3" Stainless Police Service Six in .357 Magnum. Wouldn't mind getting another 3" Security, Service, or Speed Six in the same caliber.

I've had my 3" Stainless Ruger Police Service Six in .357 Magnum for two years. When the previous owner advertised it as a 3" I was skeptical but followed through; sure enough, 3" .357. It has a Hogue monogrip on it. Very nice. It's a keeper. I've been shooting 4" and 6" Security Sixes in .357 Magnum for almost 40 years. In my eyes, one of the finest, if not the finest double action around.

But you didn't say what city or gun shop.

It's Milford, PA. I'm not sure of the name. Just a little gunshop that I passed a million times and never even noticed it. I'm going to go tomorrow to verify they are 3" models. I used to own a SP101 2 1/4" and these barrels look longer. And they have a few 4" as well, and they are definetely longer. I'll measure tomorrow and get the gun store info for you. maybe even take a pic or two if the clerk doesn't mind and I'll post them here.

the speed six is the most comfortable to carry for me because of the round but and fixed sights. i have a 3" service six i like just as well. the security six with adj sights seems to be closer to the gp100 though.
just depends on which one you like and feels best in the hand

The 3" security six (adj sight) is unknown. We need photos!
The 3" police service six and speed six were special order models. .38s are very rare. .357s a bit more common but any 3" is over toward the rare side.
I have some of each. I'd give $375 all day for one. I assume these are stainless.
Choice boils down to your preference for round butt or square butt.

Went back today. There are only 2 Rugers left. That means 4 of them were sold in the last few weeks. I am almost positive that at least one of the ones gone (don't know if it was a Speed Six or not. might have been a Security Six), was a 3", but the two that remain are one Security Service Six, and one Speed Six. Both 2.25" barrels. Both listed for $325. Look kind of grungy, but a good cleaning would get rid of that. They are at Gold and Guns, in Milford, PA.
