Picked up new SR40 today, black slide version. I have not seen That much grease on a gun sense I got my russian sks. Striped down pistol to pile of parts. Three quaters can of rem action cleaner later she was clean. Reassembled without no fire without mag in thingy on firing pin. Easy to do. Going to range sunday with an asortment of 40 ammo.

I just picked up my new SR40 yesterday. Stainless slide model. I asked the gun dealer about cleaning the machine oil off of it before I use it the first time. He told me that Ruger has gotten pretty good about leaving such oil on their guns when they send them out. We took it apart and I must say it looked really clean and free of oil. I haven't shot it yet but I am very happy with it.

Hey Riz and Amazon,

By way of introduction, welcome to the forum from the Seattle area. It is good to hear of other's that have taken the SR40 plunge.

I purchased my SR9c in July and my SR40 in November. After reading in these, and other forums, about the need to thoroughly strip/clean/lube the pistols prior to use, I heeded that advice. Hard to say if my proactive steps enabled me to now report that I have had no problems whatsoever with either pistol. I have about 1000 rounds through the SR9c, and about 500 rounds through the SR40.

I hope that both of you are able to enjoy your great Ruger pistols. I know that i enjoy mine.

There have been some interesting posts wondering about the seeming dearth of posts about the SR40. I might tender the explanation, that often all you read about here are the problems, the positive reports are silent.

I took my SR40 to the range, straight from the gun counter with OUT cleaning.....
100 rounds down range with out a single issue!
Cleaned it real good afterward and I have not had a problem.. :P
It did have some grease but nothing in to much excess.
