Ordered it from CDNN on Monday and picked it up Wednesday. It's the plain ole 3600 model and it seems like a nice little 22. I haven't shot it yet but I did dry fire it a few times. I hope after a good cleaning and some range time it will smooth up a bit. I didn't put a trigger scale on it but the Double Action Pulll is ridiculously heavy and a lot of stacking. Even the Single Action Pull heavier then I would like. I'm thinking 9 lbs plus. In no way am I looking for a target trigger but feel it should be better then this. I just bought a S&W M&P compact 22 and it's trigger is half the weight of the Ruger. I plan to use these for practice guns for my grandkids.

Clean the packing/machine oil out of it and lube it with Breakfree or something. It should smooth up. I like my SR22. It is a favorite plinker of most of the new shooters I work with.

Cleaned and lubed. Single action pull feels heavier but is 5lbs. It has a different feel then my others. No kids this weekend so I'll put a brick or so through it and see if it gets better.

I am not having any luck with Rugers this year. Today I was able to get this little 22 to the range. After I got it sighted in I wanted to get it broke in NOT BROKEN!. Let me explain. I loaded up both mags with CCI Mini Mags. Double action pull was heavy but to my surprise I was able to hit a 16" piece of steel at 15yds no problem. In single action I was getting a group on the steel. I had 1 FTE but I figured it just needed broke in. Loaded 2 more mags full and was getting better and better as I was finding my point of aim. I was hitting the smaller 10" steel every time after the 4th mag. I was feeling really good about this 22 and planed on running 500 rounds through it. Then on the 75 shot it happened. The slide came back then forward and flew off the front of the frame to the ground with the recoil spring following it. I just stood there with my mouth open trying to figure what happened. I picked up the parts to put it back together and noticed this. The Takedown Lever was shattered. WTF!

Contact Ruger customer support. Explain and I'm sure they'll send you a shipping label at their cost. You can ship it directly. They'll make it right and ship it back to you directly.

Customer support is A+ and don't give up on the SR22. Had mine for a few years and never a problem.

The takedown lever on these is a known problem. Doesn't happen to everyone, but it has fairly often to many. These guys make a stronger machined polymer one to replace the factory plastic, if Ruger hasn't done it yet. http://twintechtactical.com/sr22-take-down-lever/

It's on it's way to Mayodan,NC. Ruger customer support is fine and I have no issue there. The fact is this new pistol blew apart in 75 rounds. That is totally unacceptable no matter who it happened to or how many times it has happened. And if it's a known problem that even makes it worse. Don't get me wrong. I'm not taking Ruger off my list of manufacturers to buy guns from by no means but jeez. They gotta get this kinda thing right. It's a 22lr!
I was just getting ready to order a SR40 and or SR45 but having 2nd thoughts.

I don't have a .40 or .45, but do have a 9E. No problems yet with 5 or 6 hundred rounds thru it. I've noticed that the full size pistols seem to be sturdier than the little guys, but you're right about design/material/manufacturing issues. For the SR22, they should have spent an extra few cents/unit on a better material than injection molded plastic. Some design engineer/manager is responsible for that screwup.

I take it that the takedown lever is the actual slide stop? If that's the case shouldn't that piece be made of metal?

I'm not that familiar with the inner workings of the gun, but just looking at the parts illustration in the on-line manual it doesn't appear to be. Might be some interaction between the two pieces tho. But yeah, it ought to be metal imo.

I switched out the recoil spring and guide rod in my 9E for an aftermarket steel rod because the factory rod was plastic.

Never been a fan of plastic for working parts like this. Imo, most manufacturers in the last 10 or 15 years have gone way overboard in the use of plastic/polymer simply for financial reasons.

I can't believe this is still happening. Ruger did make some changes to prevent this not long ago, I have no idea what those changes where. But obviously it's still plastic. As others have said it should be obvious by now to them it needs to be metal. I'm thinking of picking up the Twintechtactical replacement metal part even though I've had no problem with mine so far. For $16 bucks I think that is reasonable.

Better read closer. TwinTech piece isn't metal either, but it is a tougher polymer then the OEM piece. It's also not currently available according to the website. I couldn't find any other aftermarket provider for this item.

Ah I see now. Well... so much for that. I'm thinking now there may be a good reason it can't be metal if they just beefed up the polymer.

I buy all kind of aftermarket parts that work for me to improve my shooting but I'm not going to spend more money for after market parts to fix what shouldn't need fixed. This is a problem that needs addressed and corrected without question.

Since you've already sent it for repair, I'll be very interested in the results when you get it back. My daughter has one of these, but hasn't mentioned any problem with it. She doesn't shoot much tho.

Not trying to be sarcastic but....
In my note to them I had also asked if there was a particular type of ammunition that I should be using. Because CCI Mini Mags are my go-to 22 long rifle ammunition no matter what I'm shooting. If I can only shoot standard velocity ammunition I have no problem with that but I need to know.

That's covered in your user manual, so they won't deviate in their reply to the question.

AMMUNITION The RUGER®SR22®
pistols are chambered for the 22 Long Rifle cartridge.
Do not attempt to load any other 22 caliber cartridges into the magazine or
chamber of the pistol.

The RUGER®SR22®
pistols are compatible with all factory ammunition of
the correct caliber loaded to U.S. Industry Standards, including high-velocity and
hollow-point loads. However, sub-sonic or match-grade ammunition may not
have sufficient energy to cycle the slide. If you find that the slide does not cycle
fully, try another brand of ammunition.

I like the tungsten color. I didn't want to rob his thread.
When did Ruger correct the takedown lever issue? Mine is a SN 367-608-- and still no metal take down lever. But even if it was metal maybe recoil pressure will ruin another part like the slide?
Heck...I didn't even know it had this issue. Are there any other issues I need to know about?

Just got a reply from Ruger.
Ruger Customer Service
Thank you for contacting Ruger Customer Service.

Mr. Kassar,

We apologize for the inconvenience. We have found if the takedown lever is not completely latched while firing it will break and cause the slide to come off.

The SR22 pistol is chambered only for the .22 caliber Long Rifle cartridge, including high velocity and hollow-point loads, manufactured to U.S. Industry Standards. Do not attempt to load .22 Long, .22 Short or any other type .22 caliber cartridges into the magazine or in the chamber of the pistol. Use of .22 shot shells is also not recommended. We recommend using ammunition that is rated 1200 FPS and above. The firearm will take CCI Stingers at 1640 FPS. Sub-sonic or match grade ammunition may not have sufficient energy to cycle the slide. If you find that the slide does not cycle fully, try another brand of ammunition.

Well it could have come unlatched I guess. But it was not on the first shot of a full magazine when it blew apart. And when I put the magazine in it was latched so if it came undone it did it while I was firing it which then goes into another problem.

I have yet to get anything from Ruger in North Carolina confirming they have my firearm. But as far as tracking it was delivered Wednesday morning. Just seem like they should have acknowledged receipt of the package.

So I reckon Rugers recommended (but unsaid) solution is to superglue the latch in the locked position?

I don't want to bad-mouth them too much being they did fix my P94 and reblued another P94 at no charge and have been great in the past.
I have no idea how many SR22s this has happened to I just don't believe this is a minor issue. I'm done complaining so I'll wait to get it back and see what happens. I will not be shooting Stingers or velocitors or any other super high velocity rounds just to be on the safe side. I got this for my grandkids to practice with.

I have two SR22s, a first year (2012) production one and a 2016 one. There is no discernible difference in the take down levers between the two. Never had a problem with either, just have to make sure they are snapped shut before using.

I'm sure I had it snapped shut but like I said I can't swear that it didn't come undone before I fired that round. When the slide flew off I did feel something hit my hand. It didn't hurt but I did feel something. It may have been an empty case. I was standing in grass so I didn't even think about looking for anything and was stunned seeing the slide fly off. That's a first for me. It has been in NC since the 14th and I haven't heard a thing so I guess I have a line ahead of me.

Been 2 weeks so I made a phone call to Mayodan North Carolina today. The young lady at customer service informed me that the repair has been complete. She also told me they replaced the slide ,takedown lever and another part I can't remember. Test fired 30 rounds and is at the shipping department. I would assume I will get an email with tracking today or tomorrow. We will see.

Friday is the day. I will be at the range this weekend for sure. See if I can run a brick through it. I will let y'all know.

Right Insert part#4 is the other part they replaced. It looks like it did when I got it new. The wind here today blew siding off the eve of my house so I won't be testing guns this weekend. I will post back when I can get to the range.
