My wife absolutely loves hers. She also likes my SR9C but is still a tad skiddish with the recoil.

Mine eats most ammo, but likes Federal Champion and Remington Golden Bullet the best. Doesn't produce tight groupings like a target pistol (think Ruger MkIII or Browning BuckMark), but it is really fun! My family enjoys it and easy to clean.
Mine doesn’t like American Eagles either. Quite a few rounds didn’t have enough power to cycle the slide and eject the spent casing. Lately I’ve just been shooting Mini-Mags and Federal 810s and haven’t had a single problem.
There is an ammo called the M22 that I think is Winchester, that was developed for AR style high capacity 22s that may be really good for this. It uses a black copper plated bullet. I haven't made the switch to the SR22. I still prefer my good ole MKIII, but have thought about a 22/45 Target with the 1911 grips. I really like it and it would be a good 1911 trainer.
Different gun but similar enough, my p22 has yet to give me a FTF or FTE with plated rounds, primarily shoot either CCI HV MiniMags or CCI Stingers. It really likes the stingers though. Any un plated 22lr round though will not work in it. You can get 2-3 rounds off then get either a FTF or a FTE. The un plated rounds also muck up the barrel a lot faster too. When we were out shouting my friends sr22 we only used stingers and never had any issues.
I took my buddy with me to the range on Sunday. We shot my SR-22, my 9mm Sig P228, and my Browning BDA (Sig P220) in .45ACP.
He is 6'3, 225 lbs, and a former college hockey player, but he wasn't embarrassed at all to admit that his favorite of the three pistols was the little rimfire SR-22. He just had so much fun with it.
It's been a great piece for me--.22LR is super cheap to practice with, and the gun doesn't intimidate my two young sons at all (they flinch with the 9mm and won't even try the .45).
It is certainly not a match-grade competition pistol, but it is plenty accurate for recreational use and has been very reliable for me as well. I generally shoot Federal copper-plated.
