Good Afternoon,
I picked up a new SR1911 today and I have some concerns.
I notice that there is some slide rattle when shaken.
Also upon dis assembly I noticed that the barrel bushing
had some play when put on the barrel.
Is this normal?
Thanks For your help,
Charlie

B24 target at 25yds, 230gr HP +P Winchester Ranger 7rnd mag
two on the x, five in a 2 1/2" group
Mine makes similar sounds and "looseness"
apparently, that is not a problem

I'd be worried if it didn't rattle! The fact that the gun is "loose" is what makes them so reliable.

Thanks for the reply's gents.
Took it to the range this morning and it did
fine. I was shooting 4" groups which is normal
for me at 25 yds. Ran 150 rounds of 230 grain
Lawman through it with out a hiccup.

1911s can be fitted to the point that they are very tight and rattle-free; done right, they are reliable, too. To fit them to that point would be expensive, though, and it is not really necessary. With good QC, you can mass-produce reliable, accurate guns that may not win target contests but are excellent in any other application.

The slide and barrel can be tight to each other and accuracy will improve. The sights are on the slide, so any slop in the fit of the slide to the frame is meaningless. Wherever the slide comes to rest on the frame, the sights will still be aligned to the slide/barrel.

I have a hand fit Kart NM barrel in my Springer. The lugs are cut in such a way that when the gun is at battery the slide is tight. As soon as the slide/barrel start to unlock the slide/frame are loose.

The gun has never hiccuped on me.

John Browning designed it to be a little loose. Remember, it was designed as a service pistol, and you are getting great accuracy from it. What you saw, 2 1/2" at 25 yards, means that the gun is shooting better than many handgunners. My two Kimbers are tight, but they work well. They did need 500 rounds of hardball as a break-in, but never a bobble from either of them.

As long as it is running good and shooting like that, I would not worry if it rattles or not. I own over a dozen assorted pistols. Some of them are tight, some rattle, but most of them are more accurate than I am.

Loose is a relative term. The bushing should be tight when the barrel is locked. Ruger doesn't fix loose guns if they function correctly. However if you complain enough they may. Seems like you have too fight with them a bit more these days. I got crap for trying to order medallions for my p345.

Yes, its normal a couple of my old rattle trap Colts are my favorite 1911s. My SR 1911 is also a rattle trap, if it wasn't I probably wouldnt trust it. :)

I have a couple now and they shoot great. I would not say rattle trap, but they are not super tight either.
