Hello Folks,

I have just bought a new gun. Actually it is my first Ruger. I went to a shop for a Glock34 and came home with this :D

I know for sure that less than 200 rounds were shot with it and it doesnt have 1 single scratch. For 200 euros it was a good deal.

I want to change the grips with some rubber ones. I dont like the Hogue ones because they seem too "modern" for the character of the gun. I like the Pachmayr gripper grips (with finger grooves), but it seems they are made only for the square butt Security/Service models. On the other hand Im pretty sure I have seen a Speed Six with those grips somewhere. Do they fit on the Speed Six ?

Does anyone know any oher brand of grips that fit on the SS ?

I also have a Millett orange front blade, but I didnt install it. Is it worth to change the sight or will the gun lose value without much of an improvement ?

Thanks

I bought these for my Security Six . Works well, and I don't think you can beat the price. Don't know if it will also work for a speed six.

Well there is a black Rubber grip from Sile i believe that is available throgh the Ruger website under attic treasures that was installed on some later factory models. It is probably the nicest rubber grip available as it is factory original equipment and has the ruger medallion.

I do not think you will regret passing up that Glock. Get out and shoot that Ruger and you might be surprised at how comfortable those wood grips are. I can shoot stout handloads through mine all day long and I love it. Good buy.

The Security/Service Six grips will fit on the Speed Six but not the other way around. The Speed Six has rounded grip frame.

I agree with Twobisquit. The Security Six is a much better firearm than a plastic, striker-fired Glock in every way except magazine capacity and weight.

THANKS GUYS!!! I have shot the gun today and it is great. Accurate enough for the first time and the trigger is really good. I might polish the trigger parts to make it even smoother and change the spring, but for now Im satisfied with the results.

Im just having a hard time to import grips from the USA because they are considered a "vital" part of a gun... The stock grips are just fine, but I want to preserve them because they are like new.

And yeah, I dont really trust plastic guns. I tried the new glock 17 and hate it. the slide release was so small and stiff I had to use both thumbs to pull it. Not a gun I would rely my life on. Might be just a single "bad" piece though...

IMNSHO, about all that particular gun needs is a T-grip adapter, which is an ingenious, non-obtrusive device for enhancing controlability without adding bulk.
"T-grip adapter" is my term of choice, a hold-over from my youth. You may or may not understand it.
Maybe someone here can post you a photo.

Hello Erik and welcome to the forum.
You have purchased a fine revolver at good price. I have Pachmayr grips on two of my Speed Sixes, unfortunately they are not Grippers. I believe Hogue makes grips for the Speed Six.

A truly excellent European grip for the -Six guns is Trausch's TJ84R. While it's designed for a round-butt Service Six, Jacques Trausch will happily modify it for a square-butt frame at no additional cost (yours does appear to be a round-butt, so this modification wouldn't be necessary). After some use, I also had him further modify/cut the left grip to better accomodate speedloaders.

See www.trausch.com

Regarding the front sight,I'm a huge fan of the Millett Orange Bar front sight, but I believe that these were exclusively made to be used in conjunction with the adjustable rear sight of the Security Six; measure the existing sights and the Millett carefully, both height and width, to determine suitability-and pay particular attention to the width of your rear sight notch width vis-a-vis the thickness of the Millett blade. Value-wise, I don't think it'll make any difference, as the Ruger -Six series guns have not exactly ascended in value, despite their inherent qualities-just make sure that if you go the Millett route, that it's viable from a shooting/accuracy standpoint on your Service Six.

Best, Jon
