Thinking bout pulling the trigger on a new SP101 2 1/2 357mag today. I've wanted one for a long time.
Yesterday I stopped at to gun shops the 1st one had the gun for $532.00 out the door price. The 2nd one didn't have one, he said they're in high demand & he's had one on backorder for some time.
Theirs all so a gun show this weekend.
My questions are;
1) Is $532 a good price?
2) Are they in high demand & hard to find?
3) Should I wait till this weekend & try to find a decent used one? And what's the going price on a used gun?

If they are scarce I'd hate to goto the gun show & come home empty handed. Then have the new one sold.

My LGS has been looking for over a month for a 4.2" barrel for me, no go, not yet!

I have a "stock watch" in with Davidsons for a sp101 2.25 38. Earlier this week I got notified that they received a shipment, but it came with a disclaimer that demand is so heavy the shipment did not cover existing backorders. I'm hoping a Romney win will slow down the "Obama effect" and get some guns to end up on dealers shelves long enough to buy one!

I picked up a used 3" 38Spcl at a gun show back in February for 425. First one of those I had seen in a long time.

I recently picked up a three year old 2 1/4" .357 Mag Sp101 with seemingly little wear for $375 on consignment at a local gun store.

I was pleased.

I was at a big show this last weekend and in the market for an SP101. I saw three, all used. a 2.5" for $455, a 3" for $525, and another 3" for $550. I bought the first 3" for $500 out the door. It's a 2010 model that is practically brand new except no box or papers. I'm happy and anxiously awaiting my Simply Rugged holster!

My favorite LGS had several of them in stock last May when I bought mine. I have no idea if they are still available.

Just checked two LGS online - one had them for $519 and the other $549. I bought mine about 4 years ago for $490.

I have a 2 1/4" DA only 357 with Eagle boot grips on it you can have for $400 plus $20 shipping; or to put it another way $420 shipped to your FFL. No box or papers but it is a solid gun. The front sight could stand to be replaced as it is a bit shiny but not broken or anything, just shiny from the holster.

Louie that seems like a decent deal but I'm a hammer man. Probably gonna get the gun new from my dealer. Thanks

Went & bought the new SP101 today. Won't be able to shoot it till Sunday.
Thinking about getting a Galco Scout holster for it. Any opinions?

That price doesn't sound to bad to me. Locally they are running about $525-545 plus almost 8% tax. 2 weeks ago I picked up a 3" in 357 used for $385. It was test fired in Aug or Sep 09 and hadn't been shoot very much. From the looks of the cylinder the previous owner I think only fired 38s. There was still a carbon ring where it hadn't been cleaned that well. Had it out yesterday and.....it's a keeper!

Thats a fair price thats what they go for give or take a few bucks for a new one, the only way you will find a better price is to go used, for what little you would save your better off with the new gun.

A year or so ago I bought three or four .357 models (2 1/4" and 3 1/16") for under $400. Haven't seen any selling for that price in a while, though. If I did I would buy them.
