New Slide for LC9

I have an earlier serial number LC9 with a front sight slightly off center, causing impacts a little to the left. I understand that newer LC9s come with the sight pinned in place, and so I called Ruger to ask them about it. They are very generously sending me a new slide and a return envelope to ship back the old one.

This got me to thinking about how particular parts wear in together, and now I'm wondering if there could be any adverse affects with matching a new slide with a frame and barrel that have about 1000 rds on them?

Yeah,you won't know until you try it out; I hope it is a "go" for you.

Wow can't believe Ruger did that. The risk of letting a customer replace a slide is not something they normally accept. You can't buy a slide for any other pistol. That goes to show the quality of the new guns and their quality control now. Normally a slide must be tech fitted and test fired.

Just got new slide in the mail Yesterday for my LC9. I had called Ruger Support for light strike and FTF problem. After i read off my serial number, the tech support girl basically said she didn't need any further information. I guess there was a problem with the firing pins on a batch of guns that mine fell into. They replaced the entire slide rather than have me ship my gun to them to change out the firing pin. The firing pin carriage is different than my original one.

I can't see why it would need to be Tech fitted. They are completely interchangeable parts.

Going to the range tomorrow to see how she fires now.

I don't either but it has always been Rugers policy.

My LC9 slide is kind of shakey. Maybe they have enough slop designed in to it so as interchanging parts are not a problem.

A lot of semi autos have clearance between the slide and the rails on the frame. This makes them fit without any hand fitting, Grab the parts and put them together and the guns usually work. The fit of the bbl in the slide is pretty close, this is why they are accurate even tho they rattle when you shake them. It doesn't matter if it's a Colt or Ruger or what, the clearance also can improve reliability.
