new ruger mark III trigger reset issue

hi, i recently bought a brand new mark III target. i have shot about 100 rds. i noticed once in a while the trigger would not reset. i tried cci, rem, and fed brands and all shoot well and experience the same trigger issue.

is this normal?i realize its not broke in yet. this is my first brand new handgun, all my others are used.

I have a MKII that is doing the same thing. I bought it used so I am sure i got jacked up some where.

Your pre-travel screw, in the front of the trigger ahead of the pivot hole, may have backed out. This keeps the trigger from going far enough forward to reset. It needs to be reset and blue-Loctited.

Pain in the butt to do, plus the screw and hole need to be clean for the Loctite to work well.

As the trigger moves forward after firing (or dry firing) you can hear the click as the disconnector resets. You want the trigger to move just a hair more than where it clicks. Trial and error, a little patience will get it.

One reason I like my Volquartsen trigger, the pre-travel is easier to get at.

Yep, Bearatter is right.
Also, if the trigger has an over-travel screw and it has too little over-travel this can cause reset problems also. Either way both of your problems can probably be cured with a simple adjustment.

I'm doing this from nearly year-old memory, I'll try and get it all!

Anyhow, you remove the top, receiver, and reinstall the mainspring housing. Now you can cock the hammer with your thumb/finger.

You'll have to remove the trigger pivot, and raise the trigger up a little to get at the screw, which I believe takes a 1/16" hex key. For what it's worth, mine was set at 3/4 turn out from being all the way in. That may give someone a starting point.

Anyway, you have to put the trigger and pivot back to try the setting. Finger cock the hammer and pull the trigger. Let the trigger go back forward slowly and listen for that click. The trigger should stop a tiny bit after the click.

Hopefully no more than three tries will get it, and don't forget the Loctite.

I like the Volquartsen trigger as both screws (it has pre- and over-travel) are accessible from the face of the trigger, no disassembly required.
