New Redhawk problem

After 18 rounds my cylinder wont close. I cant seem to find what is causing the problem. Very disappointed I wanted this gun for a long time and sold my s&w 629 to buy it.

Clean under the extractor, probably some crud under it. That is the most common cause of not closing. A couple of mine are very closely fitted and it don't take much dirt or unburned powder there to prevent it from closing. It also helps to slightly rotate the cylinder as you are closing it. I made that a habit with all my Ruger double actions.

Always hold the gun up when ejecting shells so they drop free and don't spill any left-over carbon into the gun.

Don't regret the swap. You made a good choice. You'll like the Redhawk. Hopefully it's just powder or crud under the extractor. It's a great, stout, and solid shooter.

See my 45LC project thread. Running into an issue with mine as well did you notice any excessive crane gap prior to physical ejection problems?

If there IS a possible potential of this thing not functioning properly and/or being dangerous, I may send it back to Ruger.

I just got my Redhawk back from Ruger today after sending it back due to similar issues. My cylinder would not close with properly moonclipped 45ACP. Worked fine with 45LC. They replaced the extractor and pawl. Works excellent now.

Ruger had it for less than two weeks. I am very pleased with the fix and the customer service.
