Is it still too early to expect to see any of the announced 1A in 222?

As an aside, I think a 1A in 223 might be a good seller in a Lipseys, etc. special run, either in SS or blue.

I have yet to see on of the "NEW" No.1's except at SHOTS.

There was an uncataloged run of just slightly over 100 #1A in 223 in the early 1980's timeframe, along with a run of 500 plus in the unsighted #1AB 223. The #1A in top condition, is a 2500 dollar gun, IF you find one. :!:

A note on the early 1-A version:
Previously, the un-cataloged #1-A in .223 was probably made during the following time period, as my 1981 & 1982 & 1983 Ruger catalogs all show the #1-AB being available in .223.

I can't remember where I saw this, and so don't give it much credibility. What I recall is that the .222, 1-A will be for 2013 only, and then in 2014, a .223 1-A will be offered.

I've been checking the ruger 1-A inventory at davidson's every day. I hope I can get a .222.

Wow, I hope you're wrong, but you may have a point here. Why wouldn't they use some mind blowing wood, if they had it, for an occasion like this? Just saving it all for us I quess... :wink:

I think the reason they don't use better wood in their exhibit rifles at SHOT and NRA is that everyone would expect wood that good and be disappointed when they ended up with a lesser one.

I turned my 223 AB into an AH with an Alex Henry forearm some years ago. I did keep the AB forearm, just in case.

I haven't seen any of the 2013 #1 as of yet. Thankfully I only NEED the "V" in 6.5-284.

I have two non prefix AHs in 222 so figure i can forgo the new "A"

The picture I posted was taken with my Iphone and did not capture the quality of the wood. :oops:

At the show, the display guns are worked over very hard so I can see that they would not want to put a very nice wood sample on display. 8)

I selected an "A" model in 204 Ruger to fill the "A" model 223 slot in my collection. Great shooter! 8)

You're probably right, and how times have changed. You look through the older catalogs and see that Ruger wasn't afraid to represent the #1s dressed in not just nice, but stunning wood, and for the most part they actually came with just that, stunning wood.

A "V" in 6.5-284 would be interesting.

I have been looking at "V's" in larger calibers.

A "V" in 7MM or 300 Win would be fun to shoot but not to carry.

I did the same thing with my 223 AB, and even though I also have a non-prefix AH 222, I could still be suckered into one of the new 1A in that chambering if the planets all aligned correctly. :wink:
