I've been wanting one of the new Lipsey's 44 special Bisley's for quite a while, well I finally got one tuesday & its a shooter! I tried 3 different loads in it ( 5 1/2" barrel) & everything shot good. The fit & finish on the gun is excellent but for me the accuracy trumps everything else.
I was concerned that the front sight might be too low but it wasn't & after a quick run to my gunsmith son's house for one of his excellent trigger jobs & also narrowing the front sight down to .100" from the original .125" I was ready to burn some powder.
The load that shoots so well in my 4 5/8's 44 special also shot good in this gun (5.5 grs of 231 & 250 Keith) but the Skeeter load of 7.5 grs of Unique & a 240 gr cast HP did even better in this new Bisley & I was very happy, I'll take a deer with it this fall so its properly broken in.
This 10 shot group was from the Elmer Keith reclining position at 25 yds, no doubt the gun would shoot a little better from a solid rest but I like to do it from the EK position, very similiar to one of my favorite hunting positions.
Seems like I always shoot 9 roosters & 1 hen!! Had to throw one out!

After a couple of minor adjustments, 3 clicks left & 2 clicks down I hooked up with Callshot & we went looking for trouble (badgers) & anything else that was legal, I needed to break this new toy in right. Again the badgers didn't come out to play but I did get one bunny. Resting the gun out the window (private property) I missed with the first shot & made a lucky head shot with the second, as near as we could tell it was about 130 yds, he was on the other side of a small lake & I couldn't talk Callshot into retreiving it for me so we moved on.
As the day started coming to a close I took some very nice photo's of a true western sunset, a little storm was rolling in off to the west, just as the sun was going down, turned out pretty good out here in the worlds largest playground!

sixshot,
congratulations on your new ruger, I have been thinking about the same
glad to hear its a shooter. I also loaded up some of those Skeeter loads a few weeks ago and they seem just right in m SBH. awsome pics

Great photos, sixshot. I too thought the sight blade on my .44 Special was not tall enough, but then I started running some warmer loads through it (like the Skeeter load), and found it shoots right on top of the front sight with the rear sight all the way down.

Love the sunset photos, Dick. That's sure 'purty' country. Glad your new Bisley worked for you. Mine's a real 'shooter', too, with the 'Skeeter' load. It's going with me to New Mexico in a week or so as a back-up bear gun.

If you're having trouble with your 'retriever', might get you one of them shock collars. Supposed to be THE cat's meow for trianin'.

It was a nice drive, lots of seeds to chew and a few shots at rocks and non-living stuff. Some long distance shots just for fun. Saw a number of deer, a few elk, but no moose. I took a picture of the sunset so Dick had to copy me as it got better a few minutes later. I was driving and he had me stop every few miles to take another picture. I was late for Oprah when I got home. Other than that it was another great ride in the worlds largest play ground. Steve PS: I have a hard time backing out of Dick's driveway lately. :P

Great shooting and pictures, as usual, Dick! Were you ever able to fool callshot with the new gun? I think the only thing callshot and a retriever have in common is they both like to pee on truck tires  .

Can't wait to experience those gorgeous sunsets you have there, followed by a trip to El Toro for overstuffed burritos ! :D

Steve, we'll have to install some 6X6 posts on either side of Dicks driveway, and attach a heavy duty safety chain between them, in case his truck gets away from him again  .

wow Dick what a awesome looking gun. You certainly had your day a beautiful gun beautiful sunset and hopefully your foot is getting better

Well the foot is still pretty sore, also my right knee hasn't healed yet from my little "thrill" ride, thats why I thought Callshot would retreive my bunny...but he wouldn't do it!
Can't complain too much I guess, he did help me feed 37 people last weekend for a pistol shoot we hold every year. All dutch oven cooking, taters, chicken, etc. Went over great....however, after all that cooking you still have to clean your ovens, here's a few of mine.

A couple more sunset photo's.

Sixshot, I'm not sure which is better looking, your Bisley and the
groups it shoots or those amazing sunset photos and wow do you
ever have enough cast iron cookery for the whole 7th Cavalry. :)

I for one am totally disappointed in callshot for not retrieving that rabbit I suppose he thought a little water would hurt him  but can you really blame him you get a kill and he doesn't I'm sure he didn't want to bring back proof oh well least he has his fan club :P but at least you re still the driveway rodeo king

well I hope you heal up soon someone needs to keep Idaho in check with all those pesky critters

I told him I would be happy to retrieve that bunny, but if I get wet, I either dissolve (being made of sugar) or rust (being a man of steel) and he would have to put up with the consequences. He couldn't make up his mind so I started driving away, and he jumped in to avoid having to walk home. I haven't yet started walking on water. Steve

Thanks for posting the pics, everthing is so green it make's me want to move north.

Here in Texas everything's about burnt up now. I can't take the heat like I used to and we're looking at an easy two and a half month's before any significant change in weather.

I see you have another fine shooter in the stable. And those pics make me daydream some more. Sorry I missed what appears to be a pot scraping excellent feed!

Those are some great pictures, Dick, except for those sad looking, EMPTY, cookery.

BTW, to clean all that cast iron you need you a couple of hounds, "Potlikkers" is what G'ma called 'um.

Sheriff, he already has a potlikker in his retriever, callshot. He even knows how to lift the lid  .

Damn you sixshot you always make me want to move to Idaho. Gotta love a good sunset and nice shootin 8)
