I've been wanting one of the new Lipsey's 44 special Bisley's for quite a while, well I finally got one tuesday & its a shooter! I tried 3 different loads in it ( 5 1/2" barrel) & everything shot good. The fit & finish on the gun is excellent but for me the accuracy trumps everything else.
I was concerned that the front sight might be too low but it wasn't & after a quick run to my gunsmith son's house for one of his excellent trigger jobs & also narrowing the front sight down to .100" from the original .125" I was ready to burn some powder.
The load that shoots so well in my 4 5/8's 44 special also shot good in this gun (5.5 grs of 231 & 250 Keith) but the Skeeter load of 7.5 grs of Unique & a 240 gr cast HP did even better in this new Bisley & I was very happy, I'll take a deer with it this fall so its properly broken in.
This 10 shot group was from the Elmer Keith reclining position at 25 yds, no doubt the gun would shoot a little better from a solid rest but I like to do it from the EK position, very similiar to one of my favorite hunting positions.
Seems like I always shoot 9 roosters & 1 hen!! Had to throw one out!
After a couple of minor adjustments, 3 clicks left & 2 clicks down I hooked up with Callshot & we went looking for trouble (badgers) & anything else that was legal, I needed to break this new toy in right. Again the badgers didn't come out to play but I did get one bunny. Resting the gun out the window (private property) I missed with the first shot & made a lucky head shot with the second, as near as we could tell it was about 130 yds, he was on the other side of a small lake & I couldn't talk Callshot into retreiving it for me so we moved on.
As the day started coming to a close I took some very nice photo's of a true western sunset, a little storm was rolling in off to the west, just as the sun was going down, turned out pretty good out here in the worlds largest playground!
