I was talking to my niece last Saturday about setting her clocks forward for Daylight Saving Time, and she told me this story:

Several years ago she was working in Australia at this time of the year, and started to set their clocks, reminding herself "Spring forward, fall back." She was thinking alound when her friend told her to "Fall back." She looked quizzical at her friend, who then reminded her where she was, in Australia, Southern Hemisphere, where March marks the beginning of fall.

Australia is on my list of places I'd like to visit. The other day on the. Ews they said something like 170 countries participate in daylight savings. Interesting. I've heard the rumor about flushing the toilet. Water swirls the other way.

A brief explanation of daylight savings time:

There was an old Indian whose feet got cold at night because his blanket was about a foot too short, and his feet stuck out into the cool prairie air. Being a wise man, he cut a foot off the top of the blanket and sewed it onto the bottom.

And yes, the water DOES swirl the other way in the Southern hemisphere. Coreolis acceleration..... look it up.
