I have a P95PR15 and was wondering if I could load my magazine every other round with...fmj and jhp or do I have to have all fmj and all jhp?

Welcome. You should have no problems alternating ammo in your P95. They are very reliable with whatever you feed them.

Thanks.............I hope I expressed my self correctly. I wanting to alternate every round in the same magazine. Folks around here told me that they would hang up, that you have to have the same round(all fmj) in the magazine.

So I came where the answer would be correct from experts on this forum.

Thanks
Thunderhawk :)

You are welcome. It is always best to actually try it and see how your pistol behaves. I have tried it in mine a few times and it worked fine.

I think it goes along the same train of thought as loading slug/buck/slug/buck/etc in your pump shotgun. Get the penetration of the FMJ for light cover [car doors, house/office walls, etc] and the expansion of the HP for light skinned critters [humans, squirrels, zombies, etc]

I see no reason why it would not function the pistol as normal but as stated above you should test it out before you start packing the gun loaded this way. It would also be interesting to note any difference in POI between the 2 loads. Good luck and let us know how it works.

I think Mr. James hit it right on the head. My entry doors of my residence are not wood with hollow core but metal. If they are determined to come in, the first one (FMJ) will halt them. If need be and they do manage to get in, I have some penetrating back up.
I have used the shotgun method you mention deer hunting, and thought I would try it for self defense.

You might want to think long and hard about shooting thru your front door at a BG. In my state (Wa) there needs to be valid fear of possible grave bodily harm or someone inside the home. If this BG was unarmed and I shot thru the front door, I'd be toast. You couldn't say he was going for a weapon when you cannot see him even if he had one. Also rules of engagement say to know whats beyond the target, you'd have no idea of innocents nearby given that situation.

I understand where you are coming from, but here in Texas once you are on my property you are trespassing and trying break my door down to do what? Harm my family and I, to steal. We call that home invasion. Here in Texas we call before going to some one's home as a courtesy not to barge in on them.
We shoot to kill, other wise they sit in jail and get their jail house lawyers to sue you when they get out. I know as I retired from Law Enforcement.

OK it's your call...just consider there are scenarios you may end up wishing you'd held off. Say someone wrecked their car on your street and a loved one was trapped inside and they needed help. They run to your house and pound hard on your door in desperation for help...you shoot them...then what?

Mr. James, I just came back from the range and here are the results. I fired 30 rounds (2 magazines) with alternating bullets same load 125gr (fmj-jhp-fmj-jhp) and at 8 yards pattern was the size of saucer 4" inch. This was using full body targets. No problems, fed well and am now satisfied with my P95.

Mr. Verndog, being of sound mind and anyone with half a brain would know the difference between pounding on a door and some one trying to get in with or without tools. No one is going to pound on your door to rob you here in Tx. I don't know about WA., and with that I am ending this subject. :o

In a way I agree with you txbounty... but somebody had got to be trying to break in my house, not just pounding on the front door for me to use deadly force.. regardless of what the law allows...

heres a true story my neighbor around the corner wakes up in the night because of some ruckus out front of his house.. he get his pistol and goes to the front door and hears someone trying to unlock / open it..looks out the front window... two large black men are arguing and fusing about something... he yells at them to get the %^&* off his property.... they stop step off the front porch and then luckily tell him what they are doing... seems my neighbor's next door neighbor had decided to get falling down drunk at a local bar... the black guys were the two bouncers and they were taking him home... the guy was so drunk he directed them to the wrong house and when they got up on the porch he had proceeded to fall off in the bushes and pass out. this could have been really bad.... deadly force is the last thing you want to use...

I have a custom built Remingtion m1100 tactail 12ga shot gun that is my patrol shotgun that holds 9 rounds with one in the pipe . I load it slug 00buck so if I have to defeet a barrier like a car I have the penatration I need and right behind that is the 00 buck for soft targets .+ i have a 6 shot side saddle shell holder that I keep the oo buck in and a 6 shot stock scock that I keep the slugs in .In all I have 21 rounds on and in the gun .The slugs will work on both hard and soft targets and the 00 buck, while not as good on hard targets will at least keep their heads down till the next round[slug] goes aflyin their way .

I normally carry my LCP with alternating hollow point Hydro Shoks and hand loaded 100gr bullets. The little mouse gun has never hiccupped using this loading pattern. If the .380 doesn't care the larger guns shouldn't because the .380s can be picky.

great reading your replies. Hope you all don't think I'm crazy, but I have seen a lot over my 50yrs, and don't want to be a victim nor my family

Have you guys ever have trouble with ProMag magazines? I bought 2 15 round at Academy for 19.99, but with no rds in them they would not release.
Both were that way, sales person loaded them to give some weight still had to use finger nails to pull them out, Got my money back and found a place online that has MecGar 15 rds for 15.91.

Any one use MecGar?

MecGar is the orginal magazine manufacturer for mayn Ruger pistols. I bought extra ones for my SR9c but I wanted factory, and got a pretty good deal online at Buds Gun Shop.
exavid, my wife and duaghter carry 32 autos, and I've struggled with which ammo to load them with. That's probably a great idea, use JHPs, FMJs, even roundnose...seems the 'experts' have different opinions, this way I'd cover all the bases. But that means testing a lotta ammo :-) And it's no fun testing ammo in pocket-32's.

I've had about 50% luck with Promag magazines. I had one for my LCP and ordered a second but the second one needed some work. I had to use a diamond lap to put a bit of radius on the magazine catch notch so that it would go into the pistol without needing to push the magazine latch, likewise I had to radius the top of the magazine catch notch to get the mag to drop out cleanly. The lips of the mag needed a bit of radiusing on the edges to make the rounds feed properly. It seems they don't round the cuts in the metal at all, a bit more tumbling in manufacturing would have prevented these problems. In the future I'll buy ones with the Ruger name. It's too bad since the Promags are made in the USA.

In 9mm, I carry JHP in the pistol, and FMJ in the spare mag. I figure that if things last more than a few seconds, my opponents will probably be behind cover or concealment, or the first mag of ammo had little or no effect due to heavy clothing or something.

All my best,
Dirty Bob
