I have a early 80's 10-22 on a Blackhawk M4 stock with a Simmons 3-9x40 AO scope. Are there any inexpensive ways to make this more accurate?

Check to see that the screws holding the barrel to the receiver are tight. See if that makes a difference.

If not, put the original stock back on and try it. If the accuracy improves, you've found the problem. Also, try the factory stock with and without the barrel band.

You have an excellent scope for your rifle, so (assuming you know how to use it) parallax shouldn't be a problem. (Many .22 "accuracy" complaints turn out to be actually parallax problems.)

Make sure all your screws are good and snug, including the scope mount screws and all the scope ring screws.

Then try as many different ammos in it as you can find. Start with the cheapest and work your way up the price scale. When you find the ammo that's delivering accuracy that YOU consider worth the money, you've found your ammo. (This can occur at any point on the price scale, which is why you start with the cheap stuff.)

I guess it really depends on how accurate it is now and what you would consider accurate enough.

10/22s can deliver excellent groups out to 100 yards, but it takes some work. My most recent build is a Charger that puts down .25" groups. Surprisingly the barrel wasn't the key, but a minimum headspace bolt really tightened things up. Some of the tuned up bolts start at $40 on eBay (no idea on the quality) on up to $200 for a fancy name. I put a Rimfire Tech bolt in mine.

My current project is also getting an RT bolt, but its more of a hunting type build with a lightweight barrel than a ultimate tackdriver build.

• Improve the trigger.
• Try diff ammo to see what your particular one shoots best.
• Have the barrel worked over by CPC
