Need help on my first model Bisley 4 5/8!

This is a follow up on my first model bisley Vaquero because I originally had plans only to collect it....but now I have decided to shoot it.....

However I tried to load this pistol with some snap caps but I thought that the hammer was supposed to have a stop notch to allow turning the cylinder to insert the snap caps or otherwise actual rounds with the cylinder stopping at each cylinder hole while loading each round.....but this pistol doesn't have this first hammer stop position? The only way I was able to get the cylinder to stop at each loading position was after cocking the hammer more than one-half back and then releasing it...but the problem was that each of the stopped cylinder holes were offset just enough to the right of the proper stopping center point to prevent enabling me to insert the snap caps? Thus I need help from you single action experts to instruct me as to if I'm doing something wrong or else if there might be something wrong or defective with this pistol? What you experienced is perfectly normal with new model rugers that do not have the reverse indexing pawl system. You just have to learn how to operate it right.
1 , leave the hammer down.
2 , open the loading gate.
3 , rotate the cylinder just as required to align the chambers to accept ammo or snap caps.
4 , close the loading gate.
5 , at this point the gun is ready to fire.
I assume you know how to go from there but if you don't

Well if it's like my Blackhawk Bisley the rotational "click" is out of sync with the chamber location...just like those old Japanese movies with translation edit where lip sync out of time! :mrgreen:

Now my NM Vaquero Birds head .45 ACP is right on time...click and load.

Yup, and they've all been like that since 1973!

1)Thanks! I'll try doing the above to see how it works out. Yes I do know what to do after step #5 above.

2)What had confused me was that because my Bisley was built on the large frame I had thought that it was gonna work like the older models with the hammer having that first stopping point notch thus enabling the cylinder to be rotated with the "Click and load" procedure. And I'd also just assumed that only the newer smaller framed Ruger single action revolvers likely worked as you had described above.

3)I will report back here once I've followed your procedure above. I greatly appreciate your help!

Call Ruger and they will send you a manual.

Well I followed the above instructions that Chuck 100 yd wrote and I had no problems at all so I can easily live with the way this method works to load my Bisley. I want to thank everyone above for your assistance and I certainly will call Ruger to obtain a manual for this pistol.
