Need advice...

Hubby and I are discussing taking the kids on a short vacation. So far, we have narrowed it down to Pigeon Forge and the PT boat Museum in Massachusetts.

Being the nervous type, does anybody know what kind of an area Fall River Massachusetts is?

Having been to the Boston area on a couple of business trips and I can tell you 2 things I know about it.
1---There is lots of history around that part of the country.
2---Everything is out of sight expensive!!!!

Had my army reunion in Pigeon Forge last September. Second time We've been there and it's a great little town to visit/vacation with many attractions. Only downside is the go awful bumper to bumper traffic all four days we were there. It was faster to walk than drive. Damned tourists!

Fall River is ok. I didn't feel at all unsafe when I took my family there. Battleship cove is easy to see in a day. Recommend you spend a day in Springfield, Basketball hall of fame, and The Springfield Armory.

If you want to see some real history, lots of cool stuff in Lexington and Concord, both very safe places.

Boston has lots of great things too, but it's a big city. The hystory stuff is all in good areas, but parking and hotels are tough. If you do go to Boston, don't miss the Constitution, Bunker Hill Monument, and Paul Revere's house.

Pigeon Forge/ Great Smoky Mtns is a great place to vacation. Gun friendly. Go during the week and miss the Holidays. Good luck.

Fall River is a fine area. They have wonderful Portuguese breads. We travel through there on the way to Cape Cod. The wife attended College in Providence and traveled there during her 'younger' days.

Thanks Eveled, Dad has been babysitting while we were planting and has been giving Donna and LR his version of history. LR seems fascinated by the story of Kennedy's boat being destroyed off Luzon and I thought it might be a good thing to let him see the real thing. Lexington & Concord would also so be on the agenda but I learned early it's a good thing to have a "larger than life" hero and LR has taken a great interest in JFK. However, leaving my Commander at home had me a bit concern.

Dollywood is fun. Lori and I got married in Gatlinburg. The last time we went we stayed almost a week in Pigeon Forge. The traffic is terrible to be sure, but there is a LOT to do and see, and the dinner shows are just great! At the Island is a huge Ferris wheel with a/c compartments, and you can see a lot from it, too. I suspect that the GSMNP is my favorite place to be. Locally in Cherokee, N.C. you can get a tribal fishing licence to fish their waters without needing a state license, and the "river" is stocked regularly with rainbow trout...

I was raised near Fall






I was raised near Fall River. It was recently rated very, very low among Mass cities. Go to the attractions during the day, no problem. Otherwise, go elsewhere.

Were going to northern Wisconsin. There are no crowds and no lines. Just peace and quiet.
We went to Tennessee last year and Orlando this winter and all we saw were crowds, lines, and traffic jams.
Witch ever you choose, I hope you have a real nice time, and take plenty of money.

Never been to MA, never will go unless they change their gun laws. I have been to the Smokies, and it is quite beautiful, and, as mentioned, gun friendly.

I won't even fly OVER Massachusetts anymore. It's really a shame that there's so much historically neat stuff there.

Fall River "can" be "ok", if you stay out of some areas, but it's generally safe.

The folks there, however, don't know what a grilled cheese sandwich is - their version is called "hot cheese", shredded cheese on untoasted white bread & melted (in a microwave ? ).

The PT boat is an indoor exibit at the museum, you can walk all around it on an elevated platform, but cannot go onto it. There are 2 other large ships and a submarine you can go on and explore.

If he's interested in JFK, he should go to the JFK library at UMass Boston.

Pigeon Forge is a part of our annual vacation, but we actually spend most of our time exploring the back-roads but only if they are paved.
