ok, gonna sound crazy but i have a question. i have bought several upgrades for my sr9, they are all here and all the metal pieces are coated in grease. i want to clean every metal piece thoroughly and was wanting to know if i can clean them with paint thinner(barrel, guide rod, slide, extractor, etc). i am wanting to clean every metal piece that is on the gun and then oil and reassemble. i am not going to clean the plastic parts with paint thinner going to use peroxide and vinegar for that. paint thinner shouldnt hurt the stainless parts should it.

Paint thinner won't hurt any metal parts but avoid it on the polymer.

BTW, Birchwood Casey sells a product called "Gun Scrubber" that is safe for both the metal and plastic parts of any gun. It's available in aerosol cans and does a marvelous cleaning job. I recommend it as a safe and effective alternative.

I always keep two or three cans of Birchwood Casey Gun Scrubber around, it does a great gob on all parts and no bad smell or mess like paint thinner. I also use brake cleaner on some metal parts if i am cleaning a lot of guns as it is real economical, but Gun Scrubber is the safe and easy way to clean polymer pistols.

thanks, its nice to know im not going to destroy my weapon lol. thanks and i will check out the scrubb stuff. also i know there is a place for this link to go but i have found new ruger sr9, sr9c, and sr40 and others really cheap here in my state. they are 377.00 dollars. here is the link if you know anyone that is looking for one of these firearms spread the word. http://www.pistolandpawn.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=306&sort=2d&page=5
