My gunsmith prefers to use take-off factory grip frames when building a custom. Everything else he can get after market or build. What is a ball park range for a ruger factory birdshead grip frame. It will be going on an Old Model, but he can handle that part. Don't know when the last time I saw one for sale. Thanks!!

You just don't see the used birdshead take offs that often. Understandably most folks that buy that gun model do so for the grip frame.
Midway has new Ruger grip frames. I found 2, one out of stock and one in stock, both a few bucks over $100.

If you can find the grip frame you can order a hybrid trigger from David Clements that lets you use the new model grip frame with the trigger return spring in an old model gun. Your other option is a Power Custom OM two piece grip frame that is designed so you can reshape it to a birdshead. A brass version of the is on my avatar gun.

^^^^^ Thanks! I was under the impression that all Ruger Birdshead GRIP FRAMES were the same size. Apparently not. I need to adapt the Birdshead to an Old Model Medium Frame.

They are all the same size. The only difference between those two GFs is that one is carbon steel for bluing and the other is stainless steel.

A take off is much less work to fit to your old model frame. New castings are quite a bit over size.

Thanks Hondo, You've been a great help more than once. What's cooking in the back of my mind is that Birdshead Sherrifs Model you built with the Single Six sight. Think something like that is going on my "things to do next" list built on an Old Model Medium frame in Calibre .45 Colt. Yours is just gorgeous!!

Here is one for sale on the "other" Ruger forum.

Good luck,
