I was going to replace the sear on my 77/357 but I
cannot get the front screw loose to separate the stock
from the barrel and action. It's not the trigger guard
screw but the main screw just forward of the magazine.
I've never had a screw I couldn't loosen with a little Kroil
and time to do its work, but this one is stubborn. Any ideas?
I'm using the appropriate fitted screwdriver (gunsmith set
with straight walled sides to the blade), but it just won't budge.
The rifle is new so the screw shouldn't be boogered up or cross
threaded.

Thanks,

Try some heat. Kinda hard to use a torch but a soldering iron with a small tip can direct heat to the screwhead couple cycles of heating and cooling might do the trick. Or if and only if you can find a perfectly fitting driver bit a cordless battery operated impact driver should do the trick. But outside of hex and torx I have yet to find a impact bit that will fit gun screws well.

OK I got it loose, late last night. I just had to let the
KROIL do its job for a while. That stuff is pretty
amazing. I thought it had met it's match, but not so.
New Volquartson sear in place and now a very nice trigger.
