I reckon you could call it a pet peeve, but our currency bills are nasty. We all have seen where folks have kept their bills...
I wash my hands after handling money as soon as possible. Now I can gut a deer and eat a bologna sandwich without washing if I need to, but dang, people are nasty.
Think me crazy but most of the new bills I bring home I put away until I can fix them. Crumpled/wrinkled, corners folded and wet bills are just nasty. Honestly I feel our citizens don't respect the currency. Well when I get enough of them I iron them. Taking out the folds and bent corners. They are 25% linen and 75% cotton, not unlike the shirt your probably wearing. And I believe by ironing them I'm probably killing a few germs. I actually get thank you's for paying, occasionally with them. Both my kids worked as cashiers and have told me of/where the cash they got was.
Besides, after ironing the bills the lay flat and stack real nice.
Think I'm crazy??

It's never bothered me. Exposure to bacteria keeps your immune system strong.

Think about the trillions of bacteria that are on your skin every day. Think about how many bacteria you get when you kiss your significant life partner. Think about all the bacteria you get when you kiss that girl you just met at a party.

Life's too short to worry about it.

A while back I had a germaphobe coworker who would use his sleeve to open the restroom door. I rubbed my hands on the door handle, licked them, and then rubbed them on my face. He puked. LOL.

I got some bills back in change at a drive through that smelled so bad it ruined my lunch. Since then I only use my card.

I would hate to see a cashless society, but I don't like touching money. FWIW, I like to keep a few large bills in my wallet.

Ever see someone lick their fingers while counting money? I’m gagging just thinking about it.

Talk to your doctors, they have medications for this.......

I have more important things to worry about without worrying about 'catching something' from a dollar bill. That is like a handkerchief; do you trash it after you use it the first time or fold it and put it back in your pocket?

I've spent 80 years doing all the things that people say will "make you sick"; I've eaten stuff that was down right filthy, drank out of garden hoses and tin cans that laid in the dirt forever; you get the drift. Without thinking about it, I built up my immune system to a point where I sometimes think, maybe I'm "pushing it". The only time I almost died was after drinking water out of a beautiful, clear Colorado stream high up in the San Juans (when I had run out of camp water). Got sick to the point of losing over 40 lbs. Beyond that one instance, my immune system is a thing of beauty (I hope)... Will report back in 20 years.
p.s. I use cash for most everything.... ask the clerks: "do you take cash here" ;)

I use cash a lot. There's several places in my town where that's all they accept. Other places charge extra to use a credit card. I usually don't worry about cash being dirty, but I have received bills that I got out of my wallet and used first because they were extra funky.

Yes,, it's a known fact to many that "paper" money can carry germs & bacteria. But it's also known that to build immunity you need a certain amount of exposure to things.
I think that if money was bad enough to cause major health issues,, the people who want a lot of it would be worried more than others. (Think of the wealthy, the politicians, etc)

Going cashless is not the brightest idea either. In the recent Helene disaster,, unless you had cash,, most places were not able to sell you necessary supplies. I saw several people who could not buy gas, food, propane, etc because they "only had a plastic card."

Most people have some phobias of some type. A phobia about dirty money,,, I guess is just one of the various things a percentage of people have a phobia about.

I have never owned a hankerchief

Never dawned on me to carry snot around in my pocket

Amen to that! I always told my grandpa if you can’t stand that snot in your head why would you put it in your pocket?!

Do some research about those lemon wedges hanging off your iced tea glass in a restaurant if you want a list of gross dirty things.

During cash theft investigations I have recovered cash from many "bodily hiding places". Some I knew the location because of covert camera surveillance. Typically it would go into a pocket, shoe, bag once removed from register or safe. But there were investigations when the surveillance would reveal the cash being stuffed into crotches, cleavage, and yes even ones butt crack. You always have them provide admission to the first time, and how many times they took cash up until the time they concealed the cash on them during the interview. Some bills were pretty soggy. People sweat heavily when nervous.....and some get gassy. Talk about dirty money.....

"boob money" money from strippers?

Most women of my acquaintance have stashed stuff in their bras. Cash, chapstick, phones, handkerchief, etc.

I taught a group of exotic dancers to shoot about thirty years ago. I never asked where they kept their cash.

Albert Popwell's character in Magnum Force called it the "titty bank."

GREAT points, I Agree 100%. The necessity for cash is more frequent than most realize. From down terminals, to server crashes and natural or man made disasters it happens. I always have cash on me so no biggie.

On another note an over the counter (OTC) product called Phisohex was overused by my sister who started getting all kinds of skin and respiratory infections.

My sister's doctor in the 60's told her to stop using it. When she did her problems cleared up.
