A little contest for April 1st. Do you know what kind of fish my wife caught the other day.
I'll let you know later if nobody guesses it right off.

Wife and I went to Baja for our honeymoon. Spent 5 days fishing. One day it was slow, so the captain took us to a reef/shipwreck to fish. We were catching triggers like mad!==maybe 20-25 each! All 2-3 pounds.

Well, we released all of them. That night at dinner (it was family style), they served us the absolute BEST fried fish. I asked what it was and they told me it was trigger fish! Eating coral and crabs made the flesh very delicate and tasty!

...on the right track kinda. Triggerfish are delicious ( http://safmc.net/fish-id-and-regs/gray-triggerfish ) but this fish you should not eat because of ciguatera poisoning. Think Filefish.

It looked to me like something from the deep ocean with that big eye, rather than a reef fish.
I had to look it up and it took quite a while for me to come up with it's name.

Not sure why but the first thing that came to mind for me was a juvenille moonfish - they look entirely different as an adult - but I'm guessing this little guy still has some growing to do!

Ding, Ding, Ding. Unicorn Leatherjacket is correct. I was going to give the hint that it has a leathery looking/feeling skin because of the very tiny scales but we don't need that now. or the fact that it has a long spike on it's head. To be complete it is;

Caught something at Pierce Inlet once that the locals called a "mother-n-law fish". Now that was ugly. I hadn't a clue as to Jimbo's fish.
