How's this for falling into s - - t and coming up smelling like a rose. Since I wanted a 1911 Commander very badly and heard that Ruger was shipping them now. So Tuesday morning I called Ruger and was advised yes they were shipping the Commander models to their distributors. I then called my favorite dealer to have my name placed on the waiting list. Well I was the first name, but the dealer said they haven't seen one yet. Late Thursday morning I got a call from the dealer stated that the first one just came in and did I want it. You betcha!@ At 8:30 this morning I drove up and bought it. Total wait time less than 72 hours. Price was 699.99 OTD and if anyone cares it had a green inspection dot on it. I waited over 6 months for my SR1911. I am now one happy camper. Would post pics if someone would tell me how. :D

I have a sort of similar story. There was a post on another forum about a fellow up in Alaska that bought a couple and had the pictures. I called around to a few gunstores in my area and got replies like "Huh" to "Ruger does not make one." to "That is the midsize one right? We just got one in." I am a pretty good customer and asked them to put it under the counter and I would be right up. I got to look at it before I bought it and it was nice. I bought it, and this was before Ruger even put it on their website. Mine was $669 plus the lovely sales tax of course. Here it is under a SR1911.

I know the grip size is the same as the full size Government model, but is the frame forward of the trigger guard shorter? If so, how much? Was curious how that worked. Nice pistol and a good price for something just out from Ruger on a new line...Congrats

The frame is the same, the upper is 3/4" shorter.
