I picked up my No. 1B in .223 yesterday (yee-haw!), and not only is the wood gorgeous, but it came with an adjustable trigger. The dealer I got it from said, "It looks like you got some 1970s wood on that one!"

I was under the impression the adjustable trigger went the way of the red butt pad, and at about the same time. Is that not the case? Mine does have a brown pad, of course.

In case anyone is interested, this is a new gun that came from Davidsons. There were 14 in stock last week, and 11 left as of this morning. They have a few different models/calibers on sale, and my .223 was nearly $200 less than regular price.

Pics later. I just got it home yesterday and had other things I needed to do last night.

If it has three screws, it's the old-style adjustable -- and good news. If two screws -- well, they don't do much of anything.

Sam,
You should know that the third screw (the sear engagement adjustment) is inside the aciton concealed by the stock.
But if your gun is new (which it is), it will only have the 2-screw trigger that has been the OEM form since sometime between 1978 and 1980.

Also, please verify that this new rifle has a brown pad versus the black that has been the standard since 1993.

Ruger didn't make the 223 in the #1 until 1980. By then they were more than likely a 2 screw trigger.

As I collect I try and find as early a rifle as I can but some simply are what they are. So a 223 will have a 2 screw trigger and the barrel warning and 3rd style wood etc. They are all the same. That make some caliber easy to "collect" as they are all the same.

I have a 223 "B", "AB" and "V" all shipped in 1980 and all came with2 screw triggers, and yes, I stilll like them.

I did find a 3 screw for the "V" but my smith does a great job on the 2 screw triggers.

To paraphrase Terry Jones (of Monty Python): "Well, it's got a bit of brown in it." :D

I could call it black on a good day. I'll try to get some pics soon. I'm sure it's nothing special, I just didn't realize current models had the "two screw" trigger.
