I also got 70rnds of factory ammo too. Won't be able to test it out until Sunday.
And I got dies & extra brass on the way and 150 bullets from another forum.

The serial # dates this rifle to 1992. My question is can I adjust the trigger on this rifle? Their is 2 screws visible on the trigger but I haven't taken it apart to see what's inside. I was reading the older ones had 3 screws but the sear screw was in the receiver, is this correct?

Is this a Tropical or a 1S?
Because I can't find a listing for a 338 win mag in tropical anywhere but a buddy swears Ruger chambered the tropical in 338 at one time. I have a tropical in 458 and the barrel on that is way heavier then the 338.

The truly adjustabl2 3-screw triggers went away around 1977, so the only adjustments yours has are the two screws visible on the trigger face; front is spring tension an rear is overtravel.

I understand the over travel screw but what does the spring tension screw do if it doesn't lighten the trigger pull?

It does lighten it, just not much or very noticeably to most fingers. The stronger sear spring is what really determines the trigger pull weight more than the "trigger adjustment screw".

I bought my 338 #!S the year it was cataloged. In the interum it has accounted for 17 elk, 12 deer and an antelope. Three shot groups under 1" and velocity with a 250 Nosler right at 2880 fps with 9fps standard deviation.

The "S" is mt favorite #1 as far as the classic look.

You got one H.... of a deal.

Think of the 2 screw trigger as essentially non adjustable. You can get them down to about 3 pounds but it requires stoning the sear and you can go to far real easy and end up with a unsafe gun.

Did your friend by chance have scarring/bruises over his shooting eye? My Burris Signature 3.5 x 8 just kissed my eyebrow and forced me to creep the stock on my ,338 -06 1B to boot! I measured the eye relief and it was fully half an inch shorter than Burris said it was. It got reassigned to a 25.06.

I bet he didn't even shoot a box of shells through it. Out of the 4 boxes of factory shells he included in the deal their is only 17 of the fired.
And I'm throwing a Leupold VX-3i 3.5x10x40 on it today as soon as the mail comes.
