My LC9 is ill

Hey Forum,

Obviously I will be calling Ruger about this, however I wanted to share something that happened to it today and during my first outing with it.

At first I brushed it off as maybe not being broken in. But today it happened again. SO off to Ruger it goes.

Anyone else have this problem?
I was firing Federal 115 grain.

Unless my eyes are playing tricks on me, it looks like the casing either didn't eject all the way, or got stuck on the way in?

Your Federal 115 gr is factory ammo, correct? I've seen similar problems with reloads that weren't properly resized or were an improper case length. But nothing like that with factory ammo. Were you able to get the shell out of the barrel? If so you might try a "plunk test" with some of the ammo. With the barrel out of the gun drop a round into the barrel to see if it fits correctly. Keep us updated.

I was able to remove it. Ejected the mag, pulled, not hard, but had to pull.
Round came out once the slide was pulled back.

So according to Hickok, Federal is light ammo. I was shooting exactly what we showed in the video.

I will try some other ammo. However still going to call River tomorrow, to hear their thoughts and exercise their warranty a bit.

I had the same problem with WWB in my LC9. It ran 124 grain Magtech and Remington GS's without a hiccup!

Here is an update.
Spoke to Ruger customer service and told them what my issue is.

They suggested to fire more rounds through it to "break it in", and that although frustrating, it is common to have FTEs on a new gun.

If this still happens after about 200-250 rounds, to give them a call back and they will take care of me.

All in all, I am happy with both the interaction and response I got from Ruger. So off to the Range to exercise the LC9 some more.

I have a new LC9. The first 50 were Winchester FMJ 115 grain, and I had 1 in 6 FTE! One in every clip failed to eject. I went home cleaned the gun and got ALL the grease out of it. Today I ran another 50 through it. This time Remington 115 FMJ, and had no failures.

I called Ruger and was going to return it, but think I'll fire another 50 and if it goes well I will keep it. I guess this time I'll try some Federals and more Remingtons to see if there is a difference.
