Two inch circle at 25 yds in one second! Now that’s serious skill. I can’t imagine ever getting to that level. Not even sure I could see a two inch circle from 25 yds! Nevertheless, I know I can improve from where I’m at today, if I’m willing to put in the time at the range and dry firing at home.

If you don't put in the time you are a danger to everyone you would be trying to protect!!!

The top group was 5rnds under 2 seconds. Bottom group was 5rnds under 6 seconds at 25yds. Being able to see dot shoot dot makes it so much easier!!!

Good question. I think they just listed it as a church expense. Anyway, it’s unfair to place such a burden on an elderly man.

I haven't heard of any church that forces members to be on a security detail or to practice by shooting a minimum number of rounds in a stated period. That being the case, the amount of time, money, and effort you are putting into being proficient with your pistol shows me where your heart is.

Seems pretty easy to load to me but I’m very new at this. Just starting to reload 9mm and finding that when using my single stage press, that re-sizing the 9mm case is a bit more work.

It took me a while to get the hang of reloading 380 but now after 2,000 rounds I think I could do it in my sleep. Just set up the dies to start loading 9mm 115gr and I’m finding Win 231 powder loads and COL data that varies from source to source. COL max ranges from 1.10 to 1.70, and powder loads range from 3.8gr to 6.0gr.

There are a few guide lines to good shooting but for the most part you are developing your particular style. I personally don't like red dots or any other electronic shooting aids. Lots of people do and that's good for them. Shooting as much as you are is definitely the way to get good as long as you change up your routine, keep it challenging and not the same thing every session. I would suggest a more powerful caliber for security work! Most active shooter situations in a house of worship are a result of a domestic issue and involve 1 shooter but you need to put them down quickly, you don't want a gun battle. Actually the best approach to church security is to have a team of members that are keeping a very close eye on members that may be having domestic problems and try to help them thru it! Security should start in the parking lot. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

I know you are right. I have just recently started practicing with a 9mm which I do agree is better for personal and church defense. Hope to gradually gain some real proficiency. And yes, security begins in the parking lot. We typically have one fellow who roams the parking lot before during and after services, plus one guy posted at the back door and one at the main entrance, as well as two more positioned in the sanctuary. All are well trained and train together monthly, rigorously, two of which are retired law enforcement. One is a woman who might be the best shooter in the valley. Wonderful group of dedicated folks but kind of sad that this is now part of our world, even out here in the sticks.

A fellow on my church security team suggested to me that spending as much time as I am now as a new shooter, at the range will wear my gun out. So how many rounds typically can you run through a Security 380, provided I clean it regularly and don’t abuse it. Can I put 10,000 rounds through it before it becomes a paper weight?

Most likely, if you clean and oil it after every range outing. You can always contact Ruger and ask them what their testing has shown.

Well that might be a bit out of my pay grade. I’ve recently bought a Walther CCP M2 because it’s relatively easy to rack and low recoil design. I still like the Security 380 better but I’m told that when I grow up I’m supposed to care a 9mm, so I’m giving it a try.

I haven't compared costs but my using CFE pistol. It's been available in the last few years when others were not. I have used win 231 but its been years since. I don't think it's bad it was not available for a while. I started loading 9mm with 115 fmj bullets in the late 1970s and have tried many different powders, Off hand I don't remember any that I didn't like.

I use Titegroup for my 9mm and 45 ACP range ammo, without issues.

For some reason the LCP wouldn't extract properly with TG. I found some Bullseye and tried it on 380 loads, cycles 100% with that.
