The photos I posted here are from Doc Barranti. At my request he has left them natural finish. Over the years I've preferred darker holsters but of late been going with the lighter color of leather.

My practice lately has been to have the holster left un finished. Then I apply a coat or two of Lexol leather conditioner then apply a coat of Johnson's Paste Wax. This darkens the leather somewhat and give me the finish I desire. Here is my first one from Barranti after I have applied my finish:

Suits me this way.

Do you wear them awhile first, or put the conditioner and wax on right away? Just curious how they age. This is another nice looking holster by the way.

And also, looking at his website, is your method lighter than his saddle tan finish? Or does it feel different?

I apply my finish as soon as I get the holster. It is slightly darker than saddle tan, and mellows with age. It maintains a slight sheen that is not so shiny as most finishes.

Great looking holster. You can be proud that you made it. I'm sure someone will ask you to make them one and then you will be too busy making holster than being able to shoot.

Lest there be some misunderstanding, I did not make that holster, it is one of Doc Barranti's.

As a matter of fact, I did try my hand at holster making about a hundred years ago or so. The first two or three were junk and discarded. Then made a few keepers, which I either sold or traded. This the only one remaining, ca.1980:

And now:

And, as a matter of note, the first keepable holster I made was for a Super Blackhawk. It was a prefect fit for a Single Six. :D

Holsters.......I always laugh at the statement "the last Holster you'll ever buy (or need)". Unless you already have a drawer full , no, you'll be buying more possibly alot more. LOLOLOLOLOL! Very nice holster by the way.
