A lot of the effect has to do with slow motion... :roll: ...and this appears to be an M777. And it also appears to be one of their first shots after placing the gun. Notice the spades are quite high prior to the shot, but watch them dig in during recoil...... throwing up a lot of dirt in the process. Much of that will go away once the spades get dug in properly. Also, they are working in what amounts to an extended gun pit. The energies generated by the blast get reflected off of those obstructions to the front and sides, causing a lot more dust in the working area as well as added noise.
Check out this video of the same type weapon. At about the 4:45 mark the camera is positioned on the ground directly behind the gun. The gun is settled in quite well and the spades are completely buried. You will notice relatively little surface disturbance when the gun thus emplaced and fired in an open area.
