I recently purchased a whole lot of brass as part of an estate sale. (I also got some nice guns and other reloading goodies.) There is a large quantity of .38 Special brass with the headstamp of MUS in a kind of fancy script. There were some notes in the bags that said Musgrave on them. Anyone ever heard of this stuff? They appear to be of decent quality, fired and cleaned and they measure in well. I load mild rounds for target work, so I figure they are safe, but I am still curious. I've never seen that head stamp before.

It may be this:

Musgrave Manufacturers and Distributors (Pty) Ltd, P O Box 183, Bloemfontein, Republic of South Africa

which I found here: http://cartridgecollectors.org/headstampcodes_bottom.htm

I keep this headstamp chart in my favorites. Comes in handy when sorting through brass.

I don't recall that Musgrave made ammo.

I suspect it might have been made by Pretoria Metal Pressings {PMP} and sold/distributed by Musgrave. Or maybe Musgrave made ammo at some point?

I have lots of PMP ammo/brass I brought with me from RSA. Good quality and has served us well. Have also purchased PMP ammo here in the USA.

I once toured the Musgrave Mauser plant before it closed. We saw 98 Mauser rebuilds and engraving. Very interesting day. Also saw the Musgrave action as sold.
